Shocked at the small response to this film... One of 2016's masterpieces

With less than 2.000 votes accounted for the film on imdb and 7 nominations on the year (La La Land has already hit almost 200 nominations for film awards), this is truly the little film that time forgot. In a year when I saw more films than ever (well over 100 films throughout the calendar year of current releases), Little Men is one of the few films that has stuck with me and will be remembered long after. The story of two boys who befriend each other is one of the year's most pure love stories (a romance not in terms of sexuality but rather the friendship of two boys who find a kinship in the twilight years of childhood). No movie was better scripted or filmed than this, and I still remember the specific camerawork as some of the year's best.

If I had to make a top 10 list of this year's movies they would be:

1. Manchester by the Sea
2. The Handmaiden
3. Little Men
4. The Lobster
5. Lion
6. Moonlight
7. Tower
8. Don't Think Twice
9. The Edge of Seventeen
10. Deepwater Horizon

Best of the year:Inside Out, Whiplash, 12 Years a Slave, Life of Pi, Drive

I thought it was underwhelming as far as coming of age stories go... The whole thing with the parents and the rent blah blah blah... it was just muddled. Entertaining enough but masterpiece? That's a pretty strong term. I don't think I'll even watch this one again, so for me personally it wasn't very good, even compared to just 2016 films.

The Squid and the Whale, Broken, Boyhood, or Moonrise Kingdom would rank much higher IMO. And that's just off the top of my head.
