sorry but I'm just really tired of 'social justice' movies

dude, this same old tired theme?

AGAIN????

smh

reply

Did a blk guy made u watch?

reply

didn't watch. not gonna.

but... why you mention blacks? I didn't.

re-read my OP. I know it's really long.

reply

we can read between the lines.

reply

If you don't like this particular film, okay. But what's tired about this theme? African-American men make up the majority of male prisons - that's just basic statistics. Until this is not a reality, this theme will be very fresh for a lot of people. Also, how many films like this are there that makes this one just one too many? The Hurricane is the only one I can think of.

reply

dude there are tons.

and moreover, i never mentioned blacks. interesting that you and the other poster immediately went to 'black' justice in your replies. re-read my OP. (i know it's really long)

reply

I didn't go to "blacks", this movie is centred around the injustice African-American men have and continue to face regarding the flawed justice system.

But dude, I can admit I am not familiar with this genre - I feel like there have been stand out movies here and there, like the Clint Eastwood one...True Crime? And the Shawshank Redemption. I don't know that the genre is overrun or tired because I can't think of that many others.

reply

okay fair enough. but there have been so many, and i get you may not have been aware of them. which means you cant really process my post.

but yeah there's so many it's creating a saturation issue imo

shawshank was an excellent film, but i woldn't classify it at all as being one of the social injustice films i referenced in my op above. just a plain well done story.

the clint eastwood you mentioned was okay but i didn't care for it either.

there are so many i can't name them all. and it seems they are actually increasing in the past 5-10 years, not diminishing. my theory on this is that is due to the climate of recent marxist-baiting by the leftists powers that be, but hey that's a whole other topic lol (if interested google jordan peterson channel 4 interview)

reply

You do know that this is based on a true story about a black man who was accused of a murder he didn't commit because he lived in a racist southern town at the time, right? The movie market isn't being saturated with movies like these, that's just your impression. And they get made every now and then for the simple damn fact that the cases they are based keep happening in real life----it dosen't have s*** to do with whatever "marxist-baiting" you're talking about---what a stupid term to use. What the fck is that supposed to be, anyway. Who the hell "baits" anybody with marxism? Which you probably don't even understand anyone---none of you trolls ever do. Also nobody is making you watch these movies, so why complain about them? And you claim there's "so many of them being made", yet you haven't even bothered to name any. Which means you don't know what the hell you're talking about.

reply

" African-American men make up the majority of male prisons", yeah, because they've commited by far the most CRIMES! (thisd is sitll worthy for both sides to see)

reply

That's not true. That's some racist bull**** white racists have promoted online for years. No, black people don't commit the most crimes----they get profiled more and are assumed to be criminals simply because they're black. That's the fckg truth. Meanwhile, white people commit way more crimes in this country manly because they're the majority, but also because they don't get profiled, criminalized and demonized racially the way black people always have. And it's white folks who have mostly been in a position of power to do all that fckg racist-a** profling, and criminalizing and demonizing of black people, which has been going on since this country started.

reply

Sorry..but it's what I've read from very credible sources..

reply

Oh, really? Funny how racist idiots like you never post these "credible sources". It's still just racist bull****. As if white people never commit crimes----you know damn well that's not true.

reply

African-American men make up the majority of male prisons - that's just basic statistics.

Are you implying that they are all innocent? The defendant in every movie like this is always innocent. I don’t have a problem with these movies, there are some pretty good ones out there, but that quote just struck me as odd in the context of this discussion.

I’m not saying there aren’t innocent people in prison, of ALL races, but just because African American men make up the highest prison population doesn’t mean that they are all innocent...a high percentage of them committed a crime and deserve to be there.

reply

Of course I'm not implying they are all innocent. It's much more complicated than that, but in simplest terms, I think there's a definite bias by the legal system and the law against African-American men.

reply

Yep.

reply

Yeah literally everyone portrays police officers as racists who attack minorities for no reason. The Hate U Give, Queen and Slim, See You Yesterday, and this are just few in the past year. Not all cops are racists.

reply

thank you mrmovie. finally someone sees my point.

and, beyond race even, i'm just tired of 'injustice crusader' type movies in general, even white ones. like the hillary swank sam rockwell one a few years ago

reply

We all see your point; it's just that some of us pretend not to. And, I suppose it's just a coincidence that SJW Captain Brie was cast.

reply

Then don't watch them then---nobody is making you watch them. I'm tried of Westerns, so I quit watching them. The issue of black people having to deal with racist police still goes on in real life, whether movies made about them or not. It's easy to dismiss that as an issue when you're not black and never have to actually deal with that as an actual issue.

reply

Cops just suck in general regardless of their racism. They will run anyone down they can, they don’t care about your race. If they can violate your rights and bust you for anything they will.

reply

For the most part yes, but there is some good ones. And these movies take them to the extreme.

reply

I saw this film yesterday and didn’t find it too heavy handed and didn’t really focus much on the cops, other than the POS sheriff that out Johnny D on death row a year before his trial. He doesn’t deserve any leniency

reply

Nailed it. They're just running a business, like anyone else.

reply

The truth is, for decades police abused black people and other people of color because they knew they could get away with it, and do things to do them they knew they wouldn't dare get away with doing to white people. That's why police brutality has always been a bigger issue in communities with people of color, because the police got away with more racist s*** there.

reply

If the shoe fits...

reply

Because that's exactly what they have done in real life---look up the Philando Castille case, for example.

reply

I get tired of the propaganda put into tv shows/movies that weren't originally about social justice.

reply

You just want something to whine about no matter what, don't you? How fckg pathetic.

reply

I hope Breeze Larson appreciates my 2 star votes on every thing she has ever done.

reply

Agreed, this whole thing looks like a made for tv film.

reply

I think its odd that I can watch a movie that showcases such extreme examples of injustice like this one, be so blown away that something like this could happen in modern day America that I'm still processing it an hour later...then come here and find people seemingly irked about the SJW stuff. "Cause really?? They just HAD to have Brie Larson, Miss SJW herself, huh?"
Or in your case, "Borrring!"...and for a movie you haven't even seen.

I don't know...if something like this could happen to a single person anywhere, its well worth pointing it out. But to have it happen, at apparently the very least, once out of eight or nine death row convictions...there's a problem there. One that you'd hope average people would, if not get a little passionate about it, at least take note of as a real problem that affects real people. Instead of the yawning seen here. For a movie you didn't even see. Which...the more you dissect it, the more depressing it gets. Yikes!

The future of America, ladies and gentlemen!

reply

fuck you.

if they put out 10,000 westerns every year for a few years then someone says I'm just tired of all these westerns, would you miss that point also?

and moreover...

AND MOREOVER.....

who *the fuck* said movies have to be about correcting wrongs perpetrated by the system? hows about a little love for those of us who just want to be entertained?

and yes the future looks bleak. but not for the reasons you presume.

reply

Fuck me?
You're acting like that's all you have to choose from, you're so inundated with all these SJW movies...give me a break, what a weak position.
With all the movies put out every year, the TV shows, web series, video games, hell go outside you little bitchcake, sitting here whining about a genre of entertainment that probably constitutes .01% of your entertainment possibilities.

You haven't even seen the damn movie, you've no idea whether or not the subject matter even merits one, all you apparently know is "Waaah, so tired of...having to...know this movie exists".

This is the perfect medium for highlighting injustices..for exposing corruption and to fight for the little guy...this is the pinnacle of cinema IMO, and they can't make enough movies like this. I get that you don't give a shit, but to be annoyed by the people who do? It doesn't get much more entitled than that, you know?

Watch the movie, the utterly insane bullshit that went down and see how surprised you are that something like this could happen in modern day America. If you're American and you care about your country, I think you'd agree that that kind of batshit crazy should always see the light of day, and that we can't know where to improve without first seeing where improvements are needed. That more information is always better than less. Fuck you too, etc watch the damn movie.

reply

lol okay you talked me into it.

I will watch it and report back after.

peace,

reply

Lol never saw this response, I hope you watched it though!
Peace back at ya =]

reply

Perfect response. Thanks for taking the time (and having the patience). Really. Thank you.

reply

Really is one of those movies where you think to yourself...holy crap, this is something you'd think happens in China or Russia or something. It sometimes seems like America is not the country that its citizens think it is...and IMO the only thing that can make it better is to have people be held accountable, hold people/institutions responsible. And the first step to make that happen is "awareness", you know?

Like you can twist it and be like, "Hey did you know that in China, the prosecutors are actually elected, which means that in order for them to be successful in their profession, they need to make sure and get as many convictions as possible? Which means that there's a conflict of interest built RIGHT INTO the profession where prosecutors will ignore evidence that doesn't fit their needs...where their self interest can matter just as much, if not more, than actual justice. Lol their sole purpose, their ONLY job...often comes into direct conflict with their career goals...their hopes and dreams or whatever, is that nuts or what?? Lol oh China!

Except of course, that's right here in America...and its frigging weird, right? The supposedly most free country on earth, all about liberty and justice for all...and yet has the scales being tipped built right into the system.

Okay I'm done...just saying.

reply

Thank you---so fckg tired of seeing people complain about movies like these when Hollywood only makes one of them about maybe once a year, if they even make one at all. These films are made about real issues that still go on to this damn day. Everything you said was on point, and the truth, too.

reply

My personal take is that its just too difficult for people to try and wrap their head around stuff like this. This is just one instance, let alone a justice system that likely has thousands of stories just like this one waiting to be told.
Its much easier to tell yourself a story...that people somehow get what they deserve, that this is just the other team rattling on about the same bullshit they always do, trying to make white people look bad or whatever...

In fact, it seems like you can boil it down to what kind of person you choose to be. If you want it easy in life, then just paint with broad strokes, compartmentalize, tell yourself whatever you want to hear, give in to that darker part of human nature where you pretend you have all the answers.

Or you can actively try and monitor yourself to not be that kind of person. At least attempt to put yourself in others' shoes and realize that ideas like 'truth' and 'justice' are bigger than you and your tribal bullshit...they mean something, they're concepts that our forefathers built this country around and its on the people themselves to ensure they're upheld. If that needs to start by just acknowledging issues where they're seriously lacking, so be it...but for people to shit on a movie highlighting injustice because its too "liberal" or whatever...maybe take a hard fucking look at your politics, you know? You're actively shitting on this country's ideals, if just in your own little way and I sure hope you don't consider yourself a patriot.

Sorry, didn't mean to say all that, just never really thought about it like that, but it makes sense, right?

reply

What you said made perfect sense. It's easy for white people in particular to dismiss issues like that because they never actually have to deal with them, or know anybody who's had to deal with them. Their attitude is that since these issues don't affect them, then they're not important, which is part of their white privilege. But, seriously, movies about social justice have literally been made since movies were invented, and for someone to complain or whine about them even being made is just plain fckg stupid. They shouldn't watch them then if they hate movies like these so much. Nobody is making them watch these movies, let alone this one.

reply

Stick to Marvel movies if you want to be entertained then, hick. Some of us like stories with some depth.

reply

lol

reply

You'll never convince these republicans to have some empathy and LISTEN and learn something.

reply

So don't watch them.

reply

I don't.

Next.
