From the beginning I have felt that this show has a lot of potential, but something about it has been keeping it from coming together and I think I have finally pinpointed it: in terms of the characters, the writing is shallow. I think the root of that is the sheer number of characters that are featured, though I'm guessing that's due to the actors' hours being limited since most of them are minors.
Hopefully character development will come with time.
I see that as the same style as Degrassi. It seems shallow in the beginning but the fabric will weave together eventually. It just needs more episodes to get there because like you said there's a lot of characters. I just hope the writing team is up for the task B/c it's a lot harder

Given that this show is done by a producer from Degrassi and is Canadian and ISN'T a Disney show, I wouldn't say it's necessarily trying something different more as adding different programming.
