Luther's exposition of Ethan's early retirement had me chuckling

Does he (Ethan) have delusions of being a "superhero?" It cracked me up listening to Luther's sad story of the time when Ethan decided to live a private life with his wife but he just couldn't stop thinking about all the bad things happening in the world and he was no longer in a position to do anything to stop them.
Surely this is more risible than any of the outlandish action stunts (parachuting into Paris?) which put this movie high on the list of mindless so-stupid-it's-funny movies.

That had me almost loling in disbelief too.. it must be MIs attempt to ride the superhero wave..

In fact I'm pretty sure those lines were straight out of one of the superman or batman movies or maybe a Spiderman? with Lois or whoever saying she can't be with superman (or whoever it was) as she's taking him away from saving the world.

Also Ethan facing off against and defeating superman in this is almost like cruise being like 'hey I'm the REAL superman..the pretend one is just a bad guy in my movie' ...and Ethans over the top desire not to kill anyone (similar to TDK trilogy)
