I think once his father was found and caught he was forced to give his bone marrow so his son could survive. that's what I assume.

A very strange ending. The movie kept stressing the boy's health issues and then never bothers to resolve this. In the last scene, we are left to assume that the boy has recovered as he no longer is coughing/saying he feels bad and is clamoring to go boating with everyone.
I thought this movie was very poorly written. It seemed odd to me that Haylie Duff's character was so obsessed with getting the DNA testing from the father (who would be the first choice beyond her) but no one ever mentioned even the possibility of having DNA testing done on the man's 3 other biological children from the first marriage. If the mother had been so frantic (and the father was such a liar and apparently became insane in the end), it seemed to me that the woman would have at least mentioned every avenue of getting her son help ---- including his half-siblings.
This really was a LOUSY movie.
