Just saw it. Thought it was great. Title is a bit of a spoiler though....

Yes. Movie is shot from the perspective of the seven year old girl. You first see her with her well-off loving family having a delicious dinner in a nice home. She overhears her father, a government official, talking with a colleague about the Khmer Rouge getting closer to the city. The next day the troops arrive, and everybody is ordered to leave the city for the countryside where they have re-education/labor camps set up. It is a very tense journey and they are stripped of their former life with each step. The rest of the film is a story of her survival in the camps/killing fields.
