So amazingly, it's Jurassic Park 3 that's actually the only unique one.

I did not hate this movie, nor did I love it. It was just more of the same.

In GENERAL:

Gee, people screw around with dinosaurs and genetic manipulation for profit and things go horribly wrong. People sympathetic to the dinosaurs live, people who abuse or exploit the dinosaurs die. Out of 5 movies, 4 of them had this plot. JP3 while horrible at least had people going to the island for more altruistic reasons.

SPECIFICALLY (and probably spoiler-ish so stop now):

Wow was there a lot of the Lost World in this. From the hunt to the dinosaurs in our world to the guy getting ripped apart by two dinosaurs....a LOT of callbacks here.

For the next one....I don't know how, but do something different.

Next one: Jurassic Universe. Dinosaurs in space!

LOL!

That was a good one; thanks for the laugh!

It is funny that JPIII is the one movie that doesn't seem to recycle any plot from the previous movies. Probably because they made it up as they went.

Creighton was suppose to write JP3 but bailed. Then they wrote a new script that the director didn't like and the studio said push through with what you have because they already paid for some of the production. So they pretty much wrote it as they went.

JPIII"s biggest problem was that nobody could think up a good plot for it. Personally I would have dived deeper into the subplot. The Spino was never on Ingen's list. So why did they make it? I think it would have been a better movie if they replaced Kirby with Dodson from JP1 and made it about retrieving dino DNA or other priceless things Ingen may have left behind in the evacuation. They could have went into the Spino sub plot and other things Ingen was toying around with besides building a dino fun park. Dodson would recruit the mercenary's or perhaps just replace them with his own team and try to get not grant but a different Dino expert with a friend Billy to come along on their mission as an adviser. Pretty much have the same movie just sub Kirbys with a mission and subplot.

Dodson? We’ve got Dodson!

See. Nobody cares. lol love it

I've said from the get go that JP3 is great, a tense thriller, a pretty good horror movie, impressive camera and stunt work. It's a great film. But so is Jason X and nobody likes that either.

reply

Jason X is a fucking blast.

I think that JP3 is the closest thing to just a big adrenaline rush of a movie without screwing with the plot of series. As for this it was ok, but the dumb characters are really starting to weigh the series.

Have a short review of this movie if anyone is interested- https://youtu.be/h6L_Jlj8OzM

I loved JP3, haters can go F themselves. No its not perfect. Its far from it. But its an innocent, harmless movie that doesn't destroy the lore thats been set up or fucks around with the universe. The added mystery of the Spino was great and I hoped they would follow that thread some more. Sadly.

I just re-watched JP3. It really doesn't deserve the hate.. Yes, you can pick it apart and the Kirby's are terrible but the direction and technical work are great. Sam Neil also delivered a good performance and Billy was a great character.

After just re-watching it I guess the low point for me is how it just abruptly ends. You could tell they had worked themselves into a corner and that's best they could come up with on set.

reply

Yeah I see that. Its a shit ending for the franchise as a last JP movie. But now that JW has come out, it fits nicely as a little side story. It really should be re-evaluated by the haters.

The Spino was awesome, better than Trex and Indominus as the big bad dino.

How unique? Alan went to the Island in JP III for the same reason as the first film. Money. There was also a lot of stuff recycled from TLW as well. There's even a character with a 'lucky pack' just like TLW. Just lazy writing in that department. How is it that two characters be saved in the exact set of circumstances with a strap on a bag? What are the chances of that?

In the big picture, 4 of the 5 follow the same plot...group A mess with genetics to create dinosaurs without thinking through the consequences because they are sure they can control it until it all goes wrong putting group B in danger.
