During the Renaissance

fat women were considered attractive, it is a personal thing, but it ain't healthy.

reply

Rather than they control what they eat and how the exercise, etc. You must change to accept them as being overweight.

Just tired of it.

reply

What alternative is there to accepting them as overweight?

You can't control what other people weigh, you can't even influence it.

reply

The alternative is to not accept an unhealthy lifestyle as anything other than what it is, unhealthy, and call fat and unhealthy, fat and unhealthy.

reply

Sweetie, it doesn't matter what you accept or dont accept, you still have zero control over what other people weigh.

There are certain matters in which our personal opinions are useless, and that's one of them.

reply

a lot of the time it is genetic

reply

Most of the time it's not. FTO is the most common gene associated with higher risks of obesity with population frequencies of 45% in West Central Europeans, 52% in West African natives, and 14% among Chinese/Japanese ethnic groups according to the latest data sets of the open sourced hapmap project that map human genome variations among global populations.

But even if you did inherit the FTO gene, it's only known to increase the risk of obesity by 20-30% over the average individual. That's because unless you suffer from a rare genetic disease, genes are not destiny. FTO can be neutered from expression by proper diet and exercise.

Researchers have identified certain rare instances in which obesity seems to be caused solely by genetic mutations. I have sympathy for those people because it really is out of their control.

But for the overwhelming majority of us, genetics is not a good excuse for being fat and overweight.

reply

Sweetie, never said I had control over what other people weigh.....do not have to accept it as the norm and say you go girl. Which is what these type movies want you to do.

reply

Your insistence reminds me of the people who say they "don't accept the homosexual lifestyle". They seem to think that their acceptance or lack of it matters to anyone but themselves and their mommas, while all the gay people go around living their lives and gaining legal rights regardless.

If you still think what you accept or not matters to anyone, I invite you to consider the serenity prayer, which goes: "God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference". Whether you believe in a deity or not, remember worrying or complaining about things you can't control is a complete waste of effort.

reply

I take it you are a hefty gal

reply

No.

And you still don't get it, do you.

reply

Otter very good analogy. Unfortunately she seems unwilling to accept it. :(

reply

Yeah.

Also doesn't get the difference between what *is* the norm, and what he *wants* to be the norm.
