Review of the premiere

Here's my simple review. Graves is a Ronald Reagan type Republican who becomes tired of his daily responsibilities as an Ex- President. So he decides to be his cool self. It tries to be like Bullworth but it's cliched and just not that funny. They're clearly aiming their target audience to the left but I don't think it's good enough for a second season. It's like "OMG The Ex-President Is Acting Crazy!"

I think the show has a leg up on Veep because they're playing in the real world. You saw him with real politicians in the beginning. That gives the show so many more opportunities for humor because people like when real celebrities experience problems.

Now, that's probably the only advantage they have over Veep. Veep is probably the best comedy on TV right now and this was not at all a good pilot.

I think they need to establish the ensemble because that's what can make this good. Nick Nolte can be serviceable with the right material, but his incoherent mumbling can't carry a show for 30 minutes.

I'll keep watching, but the humor needs to be smarter and they need to find an identity fast.

Washington insiders call Veep the most realistic show ever made about Washington. Veep refuses to have actual pols on to maintain the realism of the world they've created.

What we got here is... failure to communicate!

Absolutely, as someone who watches plenty of CNN/Fox News and reads plenty of political sites, I definitely feel like it captures the current stupidity around Washington DC.

I would still love to see Selina take down a real politician though. 😀
