the ending (spoiler)

So in the last scenes, when Miguel is in Texas, who is that other kid he is hanging around with? I realize it's a fantasy when Johnny suddenly appears on his back, but what about the brief scenes after that, in the dark? Is it still the fantasy of Johnny? Or did he meet someone else? I suppose it's a matter of interpretation. I'd like to think he found someone else.
