Nice until the end

Seriously? That could have ended so much better.

Mind posting a brief spoiler? I want to know if it's worth renting before I shell out $5! It looks good, but for some reason I feel like it's going to be horrible

Sorry I don't remember, that's how bad it was. Let me find the trailer to spark my memory.

There's nothing "nice" about this movie. It's dark, it's claustrophobic, sometimes violent, with 2 characters taking up 99% of the screen time, one of them a decrepit, disabled father who spends his whole day being abusive to his full time carer daughter who is confined to the house by her father who although obviously ill and dying, can get out of his wheelchair if his daughter Meredith dares to try leaving the house. You can't help but feel sorry for Meredith who has no contact with the outside world apart from the "meals on wheels" lady who drops off food for them both but there's no bond between them and few words exchanged.

It's hard not to hate the father as ill as he is, but in healthier times it was his wife who did a runner and him we learn, who worked 3 shifts a day to raise Meredith as a single father. But his relentless abuse of her makes it hard to feel pity for him or his situation. Meredith's sanity is swiftly ebbing away, although she manages to keep it together after a phone call from her high school sweetheart who says he'll be passing through her town soon for work and they should meet up. I won't say anything about how that goes but just end by saying I found it a well acted, but very dark (there's not a single laugh to be had from the movie) and relentlessly drags you into the mind-state of Meredith who can do no good in her father's eyes but continues regardless. Whether you like the ending or not it's worth watching for sure. It won't put a smile on your face but might have you wondering how you'd handle being stuck in similar circumstances.
