Which parts were

True??

The most disturbing part I found was hearing the nomis story. Very troubling. I'm half way through and I unfortunately* (*because of the twist in the film not because he's not a real serial killer) know that the whole "serial killer" bit is false but are there any parts of his story that are true... he is very clearly mentally disturbed and the mere fact that he took responsibility and let actual killers walk around free should have added some more time to his hospitalisation rather than an acquittal in my opinion.

I have not read up on this case yet but I believe that the parts that are true are the things he did time for before he was hospitalized at Sater (sp?). Like the assaults on the four boys, one of whom he nearly strangled to death. And the stabbing of the man he picked up in the club and went home with.

I believe once he was hospitalized after the stabbing, he was given "treatment" that led him to fabricate his stories because they kept pushing for him to talk about abuse he witnessed/experienced in his past, and he began to feel like he could get approval by confabulating stories. If you haven't finished the movie yet, his siblings describe getting a short postcard from him afterwards that I think will shed a little light on the Simon story.

The whole story reminds me of the satanic worship/multiple personality disorder panic that happened in the 1980's in the US, which led to so many false memories. A sad time for psychotherapy I must say.

Psychotherapy is and always has been complete nonsense. These people have damaged brains. Their brains are either damaged, or are just poorly constructed to begin with. (bad genes)

Sadly there is nothing we can do for these people, our medical science may never develop to that level and it is certainly nowhere close right now.

When has anyone ever been 'cured' by a psychologist? Oh we used to have crazy people but then we had psychologists so all of them were cured? Said no one, ever.

What would "cured" look like anyway? Life is complicated, messy, sad, and frustrating under the best of circumstances. if someone was "cured" would they be unaffected by that? I'd be more concerned about that person, not less!
