TFA Plot Hint?

I've watched the first episode with my kids a couple of times. Within the first five minutes C3PO makes reference to a pending adventure with R2D2 & Admiral Ackbar to go seek out the missing battle droids of Mandalore. I've never heard of this story arc before, perhaps a hint towards a direction Disney is taking canon/TFA story?
