'EDM' usa acting like they invented it

What I hate most about this movie is that they act like EDM was invented by americans. They totally ignore the origins. Also EDM is a term only used in usa.

In my opinion the setting would be better if they would visit a music festival in Europe like tomorowland or one of the many big dutch ones.

I tried to watch this movie anyway because of sarah Hyland since I like(d) modern family alot. But everytime I see her stupid face I just wanna smack it.

Rated this movie a 1 because the story stucks and it had way more potential

House originated from Chicago

Techno originated in Detroit

Europe did make major advancements to electronic music but there's no doubt it started in the states

There would be a lot of New Yorker's who say they had a hand in it too. There's a lot of New York disco from around 83-85 that is definitely a blueprint for what house became . Check out New York proto-house on YouTube, guys like Timmy Regisford , Boyd Jarvis and Colonel Abrams had a big say in the scene. I wish somebody would make a movie about that.

Damn you brunt the op. I guess we did invent that genre.

reply

lol @ "major edvancements".

Trance came from Europe, and the largest part of EDM is trance.

reply

Coincidentally, trance is the most reviled form of electronic dance music. So go Europe!

Seeing how disco, house and techno were created in the United States, it's no wonder why European promoters have been flying DJ's and producers out from Chicago, Detroit and New York nearly every weekend for the past 30 years.

the house roots are in the states but techno evolved in germany.
beside that, todays EDM is a complete different genre then the origins.

and yeah, the states invented that crap...

I don't think you can really say where it did or didn't start. House and techno are generally held to have come from the US. But they're genres that never took off in the US anywhere near as much as they did in other parts of the world where they were greatly expanded. At the same time house and techno were greatly influenced by music that came from other parts of the world. Germany's Kraftwerk for one.

In any case, EDM isn't just a US term. I know in Australia it's a term that is generally used to refer to the more mainstram (more crap) type of music that gets played at festivals by megastars pretending to DJ.

I think it probably does show the commercial side of the dance music scene. The problem is, a lot of people will see the film and think it represents rave culture - which would be a little like watching Justin Bieber's film from a few years back and assuming that represents rock culture.

While the proper origins of techno, EDM, or any other subgenre is up for debate. We DO know that rave culture was born in the UK, and migrated to the US when nightclub culture began to flourish in New York. Check out the docky Limelight, because it basically traces the roots of what we have come to know as 'ravers.'

reply

Yep. I know the rave scene in Australia largely followed on from / was modelled on the UK rave scene. By the time 1990 came around, most of the more underground music here was coming from the UK as well as other places in Europe like Belgium.
