More mumbling

Actors throwing their lines away again as if what they are saying doesn't really matter. Ah well it's become the standard method these days. If they can't make speech audible without myself having to strain or turn up the volume right up I can't be bothered to watch it anymore.

Or try putting the subtitles on?

reply

Ive been watching this on iplayer which won't let you use subtitles and Ive missed quite a few lines due to mumbling, very frustrating. Short of having the tv on full blast ive just had to guess the general gist of what they're saying.

reply

That's a shame. I always put subtitles on, especially for the BBC dramas. Jamaica Inn was almost unintelligible!

reply

I'm just watching all three episodes on itvPlayer and each one has subtitles. Don't know why you couldn't get them.

reply

Nobody with good hearing should have to do that. This is endemic in so many productions and it is a disgrace.

My favourite moment was when they were in the car and 'Merrily' was whispering...I couldn't make it out so upped the volume and then the background music drowned it....yes, I know I could put subs up but when the other actors speak 'properly' with emotion, tone, expressiveness then why did they get think 'Merrily' couldn't 'emote' without whispering.

Mal,they are starting to damage my calm!

I couldn't agree more. I don't think I'll ever bother to watch anything with this Anna Maxwell Martin in it. I know she can't help her lisp but her elocution is also awful! I understood everyone else but she acts like everything is a secret. Boy, I can't imagine her ever actually performing in a stage production. Everyone is the audience would think they'd gone deaf...
