Book vs Film

The book is a very good read. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25953369-hidden-figures?from_search=true&qid=N8MhGJd4xZ&rank=1t

The book is more about race relations in the 1940's to 1960's than the space program. Some of the things it details is the shameful resistance to school desegregation efforts that took place in Virginia which resulted in closure of schools instead allowing blacks and whites to learn together.

There is a comparison of the book to the film here; http://thatwasnotinthebook.com/diff/hidden-figures

What is realistic is that NASA was the first official faction to get rid of segregation, because they couldn't afford to have all those stupid rules get in the way of scientific progress, and as you saw in the film, it was causing problems for the black members of their staff.
