Why is this not getting more attention?

Watched the second episode last night and I can't believe how little attention it's getting.

It's so funny, I still haven't worked out how it's going to end, but I can't wait to get to the next episode. Such beautiful scenery and great actors, proper laugh out loud stuff.

You're right this is an amazing show.

I don't understand why this hasn't gained more attention.

reply

love it here too. From when Ian threw the fork to the end of second episode was amazing!

reply

Advertising I think! I haven't seen a single advert for it.

reply

Brilliant stuff. I only watched the first one by chance as I surfed up and down all the channels. So glad I did. Loved all 3. It certainly deserves watching again too. Oh it's certainly better than its 7.2 rating. No lower than an 8...

Hello! Sorry, this is OT, but can someone remind me of the significance of Sheasmith's reappearance in the last episode?

I was a bit confused. I think it's either that he set everything up with the army chick (and they were going to double cross Johnners) or he had worked out what was going on and manage to save himself. Probably the first one - they were all weasles except Ian and maybe Mex.

EDIT - someone on Twitter just confirmed it was the former. Clue being that extra body in the bunker - one without legs! Didn't spot that (all I noticed were entrails). I assume now that it was Wendy that Johnners was ringing from the pub.

reply

Thanks, but how does the body demonstrate that?

Anybody watching Thirteen?

The extra body in the bunker was someone unknown (not from the group) and it was missing its legs. Therefore the legs that they thought were (dead) Wendy's were actually someone elses - hence he was alive all along.

His reappearance as a "policeman" at the end shows he was in on it - I'm guessing that was who Johnners was ringing from the pub - they'd made a deal to kill off all those involved in the Guernsey (Jersey?) investment scheme. So presumably Wendy along with Sophie were the ones who were killing everyone (it actually makes more sense that there was more than one of them, giving how easily they were being tracked).

I'm watching it - I think it's very good. With that and Happy Valley, there's quite a bit of good drama on tv at the moment!

reply

Thanks.

Yes, I've decided I'm not the sharpest when it comes to figuring it out ahead of time, so I went to the Thirteen board but there's not much going on there.

Why was he dressed as a cop and was the pub in on it? In normal circumstances he would have expected to meet Johnners (possibly Sophie) in the pub. The people in the pub would have known the local cops. As it turned out he had a reason (to arrest Sophie).

Next: okay assuming Sophie and Wendy arranged to knock off Johnners. I would have though that once the mincing was complete Sophie would have fled the pub and arranged to meet Wendy somewhere else.

If someone could clear up the picture it would be good

I don't think the pub people were in on it - that bar girl was clearly confused! All I can assume with regards to the cop were he was supposed to be an out of town cop (presumably local cops would only deal with minor crimes, not multiple deaths).

Perhaps they weren't going to double cross Johnners, maybe they were going to split the cash three ways. Sophie seemed to genuinely be in love with him, so I think she only bumped him off when he said she was a nutter and he was only using her.

Instead of meeting Wendy elsewhere, Sophie being taken off by a policeman would be a perfect cover for the locals - they would assume she would have got her just desserts, so wouldn't make any further fuss about it.

All speculation of course! Also, given it was a black comedy, I think some artistic license with the reality of the situation is allowed.

thanks for the feedback. I didn't realise it was Reece Shearsmith in the cop outfit so I wondered whether I was missing anything else.

reply

The upper half of the body in the pit was of the guy that was in the pub at the beginning, not Wendy, so it was a scam (they put Wendy's ID in the pocket of the random pub guy).

Because it's on BBC2 on a Saturday night. Needed to be on Channel 4 on a Friday!

reply

Hear you man :)

They're all tuned into Eastenders, Corrie, Emmerdale and fookin Hollyoaks! Haha!

Nevermind.

reply

I rarely watch the main channels - occasionally BBC2 - but I do seem to watch a lot on Channel 4 because it's my kind of programming. I do (slightly ashamedly) admit to watching Hollyoaks though!

reply

Just watched the final episode. Brilliant. Perfectly done.

I don't think it's "so funny" but it does have the occasional attempt at humour in the right places. Of all the episodes I did chuckle a couple of times. The running down the hill together with the rope around their waists. Then hitting the tree and smashing them together. I did laugh there. And also The quad bike gag towards the end. When Sophie (my favorite character) let him go. He took the quad then went into reverse when it should have been put into forward.

I just watched it tonight. For the first time. Got the DVD as soon as it came out. Just never got round to it til now. I don't watch TV. If I see something I like I wait til DVD. Got it all in front of me that way. Not one episode a week til it's done. The music throughout the mini series was atmospheric. It blended well with the scenery and what was going on.

Promote it to everyone you think will be interested. I know I will. It can only help it. It is not often a seriously entertaining slasher like show comes along. It's not got a lot of gore. But then gore isn't always needed to give the desired effect.
