shareCorny, ridiculous fun.
shareSaw the first two a few days ago. It is crap.
shareThat's the idea. Of course it's crap. It's supposed to be crap. No pretension here. These movies know that they suck and they embrace it. Many people are drawn to these movies to see just how ridiculous It'll be. It's like those old Ed Wood movies. So bad that they're entertaining.
He's taking the knife out of the Cheese!
Do you think he wants some cheese?
The first one I couldn't even have a so-bad-its-good laugh with; it was just painfully phoned in. From the second one on, though, they fully embraced being the most stupidly over-the-top festival of crap, and it became so bad its amazing. The fourth one so far is my favorite.
shareIt's a lot of self aware humor. They know the concept is ridiculous and just go with it by piling on ridiculous scene after ridiculous scene, while the cast treats it as serious. It's a laugh riot to see how over the top they can go. For example, each film has gotten more and more ridiculous when it comes to chainsaws.

I totally agree. What I found interesting was that after the first Sharknado, there were people seriously wondering if it could happen!
shareLet's see, take the three most awesome things you can imagine: Sharks, Tornadoes and Ian Ziering, and combine them into one... no FOUR movies! How could you possibly be questioning the appeal?
shareThey are so good, even people who haven't seen any of the movies post on the movies' IMDB discussion board!
shareIf you're looking for Shakespeare, you'll be disappointed.
If you're looking for fun and entertainment, with a lot of 'easter eggs' thrown in, you'll have a great time.
It's the same reason people like zombie movies. They are scenarios that will never, ever happen. No basis in reality at all. Just complete escapism. You don't have to think logically, or wonder 'is that possible,' or look at some sort of future dystopia....it's all pure fantasy.
