Be patient and keep watching

SPOILERS:

The first few minutes of the movie had me convinced that I wasted my time and money on the Redbox machine. I was going to turn off the movie and watch something else. But I was on my computer and let the movie play. Surprisingly, the movie became more interesting and engrossing and I found myself watching it. True this is a low-budget, independent movie so don't expect much but the suspense thrill got better. I agree with other posters. The child actress playing the revenant Zoe actually made the movie, employing facets of voodoo and the Scandinavian/Germanic mythos of Krampus, the Christmas monster. Americans are shocked that our inherited English tradition of Christmas comes with a long-forgotten monster, Krampus, who is still well-known in Germany and Scandinavia. Who also knew that the Russians have something similar, a dreaded, tall, dark-eyed, bearded, hooded man by the name of Ded Morotz, who does similar things to bad children around yuletide.
For adults, the movie comes with an unexpected R-rated treat when the middle-aged Dr. Rachel has a female erotic dream about her co-worker, a grizzled police detective who looks like a thug but has a heart of gold. Overall, it was a decent horror movie for which I award two (2) stars out of 4, meaning, worth a look.
