Well that was horrible!

Talk about over acting and in many cases under acting.

It was just announced that CBC will make a new mini-series (or maybe it was a 13-episode series) for airing in 2017. I wonder if they will use this as the first episode/the pilot, or if they'll start from scratch again.

it is to be a CBC production and is being adapted by Breaking Bad's Moira Walley Beckett and will be 8 episodes. It is a totally separate production to the 2016 one. Miranda De Pancier (Josie Pye in the Sullivan series) is one of the producers which bodes well.
While I haven't seen the 2016 Y-tv/Breakthrough entertainment production, 2 hours is way too short. The trailer wasn't totally lamentable but yes i did see a lot of overacting, Balantine in particular. The actress portraying Diana was better I though as were the adults. haven't seen enough of Haytglou's Gilbert to decide but i am hopelessly biased towards Crombie (1985, 1987, 2001) and to a lesser extent Brown (1937
As said, i can't really judge from the trailer alone.
8 episodes will be more generous than even the 1985 CBC production though not as thorough as my personal favourite, the 50 episode 1979 Japanese anime Akage No An

Has anyone any idea of when the 2016 Breakthrough entertainment production will be released digitally/dvd/whatever?

If you have read the books and watched the previous series, Anne was played perfect to how her character should be as were the others. I really enjoy this story and hope they continue with other movies.

I cannot think of anyone that has read LMM's books and not come away with their picture of Anne Shirley. It never quite lines up with the imagination of the reader, it just can't. This version was no different. (Other than the few changes to make a single 2 hour movie out of a great book and series.)

I will always love Megan Follows version of the story. The first one I watched. It was close to the book but not exactly. The cartoon series was interesting, but not quite the same.

I read the entire series in a weekend. I laughed, cried, and watched Anne grow up. No movie can ever replace that weekend. But just as I have changed and grown, I see things different each time I have read the books. So This version is acceptable when seen through the eyes of the actors and director as they read the story of Anne of Green Gables.

Now I'm going to sit down and read them all again.

Anne (yes that is my middle name and it is more regal that way.)

If I had to nitpick, I didn't like the 'carrots' version in this movie. I thought it was watered down. Yeah, you're showing you have a temper by slamming your slate over a boy's head but I thought Megan's scene in the 80s version really showed the fur flying because she was pretty damn loud with her anger.

I just saw that scene and I just disliked how long that part of the scene went on with that twit teacher not noticing a thing! he was too busy working with his 'star' pupil Prissy. in 1985 it wasn't just: carrots! carrots! <pulls braid> how dare you!! <thwack!>

it was: hey you! anne! psst! hey! <moves over> ding dong!
<anne turns around>
well hello there carrot!
how dare you!
hey hey don't go haywire! I was only trying to get your attention! you are a mean and hateful boy prissy turns around to see and twitteacher followsand I won't ever forgive you [thwack]

that was a helluva long time! now, if they wanted to show how anne wasn't really at fault then elongating this scene the way they did was the way to go. but it was still the same, anne goes up to the board and reads how she has to control her temper! the entire time that was going on shows how much of a poor teacher the teacher really was! it wasn't just two 10 seconds like in 1985. he had a long time to notice and see what really was going on!

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
