The Elite Seven + One Predictions

Well, I went four and four on my Sweet Sixteen guesses. Might as well continue the embarrassment. So for the Elite Eight (or Seven plus Chump IMO) we now have:

1. Tombstone vs. Beta
2. Yeti vs. Chump (I mean Chomp)
3. Bronco vs. Minotaur
4. Poison Arrow vs. Bombshell

1. Tombstone by KO. No contest, Ray will continue his streak of 1 minute KOs. Beta's armor is no match at all. I doubt it will even land a hit.
2. Yeti by KO. I "hope" Zoe's string of luck finally runs out. Yeti does not have exposed chains/mechanisms like BF did. That bot is quick and it should be able to easily go in once Chump is on its side (which is guaranteed to happen) and chew up the undercarriage. If somehow it goes the distance. Chump will probably get the judges decision again. (What is that, twice out of three fights now?)
3. Bronco by KO. This has the potential to be the primo fight of the round and really could go either way. I am about 51/49 in favor of Bronco. Mostly for the reason that Bronco has become pretty adept at facing the spinners with its wedge end. Minotaur is good but has struggled with some of the other competition. Their driver is good and might get a good angle that lets them do damage. I think ultimately Bronco will flip Minotaur out of the ring into the perimeter and low slung Minotaur won't be able to get back in.
4. Tough one to call, but I will go with Poison Arrow in a split decision. PA seems to be able to adapt and develop good tactics for each opponent. I have underestimated Bombshell before though.

Well, there they are.
What are your thoughts?

I'm pretty much of a same mind as you.

1. Tombstone vs. Beta
- Beta's armour proved to be quite durable, but I don't think it stands a chance against hits from Tombstone. Tombstone by KO

2. Yeti vs. Chomp
- I'm going with Yeti but I wouldn't be surprised if it landed a hit and the recoil threw it over the floor saws, into the side ones and out of the arena. Or simply their weapon immediately malfunctions. Because that's how Chomp rolls. Still, Yeti by KO.

3. Bronco vs. Minotaur
This is a though one. I've said it a million times, I'm a Bronco fanboy and I'm rooting for it, but the bot that has the most chances of beating him out of anyone in the competition is Minotaur. I've said it after the previous match, Razorback was a weaker version of Minotaur and in just a couple of hits it did noticeable damage to Bronco's wheels. If they don't do something to prevent that Minotaur will win, if not by KO, definitely by the judges' decision. So as things stand now, I'm pulling for Bronco, but I'm saying Minotaur by decision.

4. Poison Arrow vs. Bombshell
Hard to predict, since I don't know which weapon Bombshell will use. I think they'll go with the vertical disc and I don't see 2 spinners getting to the judges' decision. Poison Arrow's drum is probably a better weapon than anything Bombshell has and more importantly, they knocked out the wielder of the Mighty Rake. So I'm saying Poison Arrow by KO.

1. Tombstone- Easy victory. I do not think Beta's hammer can do much to Tombstone unless Beta can get lucky Tombstone by KO

2. Yeti- Chomp will continue it's streak with spending half of the fight on it's side or flailing around. Yeti- 3-0. Chomp does seem pretty hard to destroy taking on 3 spinners and surviving...despite being on it's side.

3. Minotaur- This could go either way but Minotaur just needs to hit the wheels of Bronco and it could be all over. Minotaur by KO

4. Poison Arrow- Another close one. I would like to see what Bombshell brings this time but I think Poison Arrow will continue to surprise me. Poison Arrow 3-0

reply

1. Tombstone vs. Beta: Tombstone KO easily. Maybe Beta gets a lucky hit like Chomp but I doubt it.

2. Yeti vs. Chomp: Yeti by split decision. While Chomp looks flimsy its armor has held up. So if it gets another lucky hit and Yeti's receiver goes bad (which has happened) Chomp could win. But I think Yeti can take a few hits and over power Chomp during the entire fight.

3. Bronco vs. Minotaur: I'm going to pick Minotaur with KO. I think its fast enough to get around and attack Bronco's wheels. Minotaur has a great driver with a murder face when he is in the zone. I think he will win.

4. Poison Arrow vs. Bombshell: This is hard without knowing which weapon Bombshell picks. But I'm going to trust them to pick the right one. Also Poison Arrow has a drone and mini bot making the main bot lighter. This gives Bombshell an advantage. Not sure if it will be a KO or go to judges. I'll go with Bombshell in unanimous decision.

I pretty much agree. Bronco is my favorite. I feel like it has the most surefire approach to victory. We may never see a bot that can climb up over the perimeter to reengage in the fight. If Bronco wins out, don't be shocked if the arena gets a retooling with a taller barricade or the corners filled in.

1: tombstone by k o

2: chomp by judges

3: minotaur by k o assuming bronco can't deflect the drum spinner

4. bomb shell by judges.

reply

1. Tombstone (KO). Beta needs too many things to be just right to be effective, and Tombstone just needs to be facing the enemy.

2. Yeti (KO). *SPECIAL NOTE* If Chomp makes it to judges' decision, they may get the favoritism win. Chomp shouldn't even be here, and I really soured on that last decision. But Yeti is similar to Bite Force but without the motor vulnerability.

3. Min... Bronc... Minotaur (Decision). Seriously, flip a coin. Both teams are veterans. Both teams can drive. Both bots have an accurate and effective weapon. Both bots are durable. Unless a bot gets stuck on its side or is flipped out of the arena, I think this will actually go the distance.

4. Poison Arrow (KO). I think this is where Bombshell's modular design won't have a good answer. Listed in Bombshell's arsenal is an axe, horizontal spinner, lifter, and vertical spinner. I think the vertical spinner may be their best bet, but Poison Arrow's drum is quite deadly.

Tomorrow's episode is the final for the season and is two hours. We will get all the remaining fights and rumble which is supposed to be really good. So make your final predictions now

I'm going with Tombstone vs Minotaur and Tombstone wins with a KO

reply

Finale: Tombstone vs Minotaur - Minotaur by KO

It comes down to driving, but if weapon hits weapon, the drum will have the advantage.

reply

Ack! Ok then:

Tombstone v Yeti: Tombstone (KO)

Minotaur v Poison Arrow: Minotaur (KO)

Tombstone v Minotaur: Tombstone (KO). Tombstone's heavy blade for drums will see it through. Minotaur must outmaneuver Tombstone, but I don't see it happening enough.

Rumble (Unknown entries, but assuming): Bronco. Lack of mobility for other bots allows Bronco to put on a show, who has shown to be effective using its front or rear.

Well,

Based on my picks for the quarterfinals I have the semifinal matches as:

Tombstone vs. Yeti - Winner: Tombstone
Bronco vs. Poison Arrow - Winner: Bronco

The final will be a Tombstone vs. Bronco rematch (a semifinal bout last year)
Although Bronco will have learned from last year Tombstone will still prevail. I really am not a Ray Billings fan but that bot is just devastating.

reply

Well two and two on the quarterfinals. I got the left side correct and totally missed on the right side.

I did state that I had underestimated Bombshell before and that statement certainly proved true. That Swiss Army Knife design is very effective and extremely good at keeping the competition guessing.

At least I did pick the ultimate winner Yay! LOL 

reply

As for the winners of the last seven, I went 5-2. Bombshell happily ruined it for me.

I'll give Bombshell new respect. He had a legit chance of winning. Had that blade been at the right level in that initial hit, Tombstone would have been rendered useless.

Same here. I know I already have said I kept underestimating Bombshell but that modular weapons design is "really" good. Not knowing which they would use caused me to base my bracket picks on how their last weapon would fare against their next one.

I agree, just a few inches would have made a difference. I might have been tempted to go with that heavy duty vertical spinner though and try for a good side shot on Tombstone.
