Do women really demand for these kind of comedies as much as the men?

The bawdy, dark, outrageous, and "liberated" type of cheap comedies with occasional drug jokes?

I'm honestly kind of curious about this considering where the current trend of movies are heading. I don't mind female centralize roles in a comedy, but to present movies like this as another stoner, wild party, or risque type of movie with girls? A female version of "The Hangover", "Weekend at Bernie's", "Very Bad Things", etc? 🤷 It feels like dumb pandering by Hollywood at worst.

These movies, regardless of sex or coed leads, all really looked the same to me anyways.

This might have been greenlit with the mindset that it would generate similar business to Bridesmaids.

reply

I guess Bridesmaids was the trendsetter behind it.

Yes.

Why is some people think they are only allowed to enjoy movie where the protagonist is the same sex as them?

Ask that of the folks who mistook gender swapped versions of Ocean's 11, Ghostbusters, Batman, etc etc for profitable projects

reply

Batman wasn’t gender swapped. There is a Batgirl in the comics who fights with Batman. She doesn’t replace him as some alternate version.

Though her being Latina in the movie version was pretty stupid. No wonder they ended up dumping it.

Women cannot make a dark comedy on the same level as Very Bad Things and this movie is proof of that. It's not in their biological nature. They didn't commit any of the self destructive behavior, they didn't turn on one another to the same degree, and they didn't get their comeuppance in the end like Very Bad Things. Also the guys in the movie were written like women which was equally insulting.

reply

YIKES,MAN....PRETTY UNCOOL....ALSO CAMERCON DIAZ AND JEANNE TRIPPLEHORN ARE BOTH LARGE PARTS OF VERY BAD THINGS.

reply

Yes the women in Very Bad Things held their own and did very well in the movie. What I'm saying is the characters and their actions in Very Bad Thing would not be the same if they were women. Audiences would be even more horrified if that movie existed.
