Why even make Zorn animated?

I guess their just trying to ape the He-Man style but, ehh, seems like it'd be cheaper just to make him live-action (plus, by doing so, you could just say he's a Conan the Barbarian parody).

It doesn't even make sense-why is everyone else live action but his world? Are there other animated worlds? Is this a world where some worlds are live action and some are animated, ala Roger Rabbit or Space Jam?

reply

yeah man ,they should totally reveal everything about everything in the first episode!

reply

It's a parody. You should stay away.

reply

Well, I'll definitely stay away from THAT 'parody' - you know, I love me some good parody of basically everything - but only if it's a good parody!

Give me 'Conan the Librarian' anytime over this strange crap.

You know - modern entertainment seriously sucks balls! Check out some quality stuff called 'Korgoth of Barbaria' (you'll easily find it on YouTube) - it wasn't picked up because it would have been too expensive to produce.

So, what do we get? Something that was done back in the 1980s (mixing live-action with traditional animation) - but it just does not blend.

Here's two options / two versions of 'Son of Zorn' I would rather watch:

1. Make it all animated

2. Make it all live-action.

Maybe they wanted a famous comedic voice, and couldn't find someone who's both a huge bodybuilder/sword expert and funny.

Well, that's why it should be completely animated. Check out "Bojack Horseman" for some really awesome animated show!

I watched the show and found it hilarious. Right down to Tim Meadows washing away animated blood off the driveway.

You aren't getting what a parody is if you still think it should be fully animated. The animation represents fantasy. It's a collision of real life and fantasy. If you make it all live action or all animated, you lose that aspect of it.

If you really think the dead hawk blood was animated to save money, I'll say it once again, this show isn't for you.

reply

Okay, I guess I have to explain a few things to you, stranger:

I DO get what a parody is. I DO understand what the IDEA / the CONCEPT of this show is - but, well, what to do - I don't like it!

In the end it comes down to that.

Maybe I would love this concept if done right.

And here's another, little anecdote: I'm from Germany, I'm almost 40 years old - and in my childhood, back in the 1980s we had this tv-show, called 'Pumuckl' which already then did the exact same thing!

Here's a link for you: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxNiriruitE&list=PLRjCg79wQp3Iit2xI5LTWbLvH92hgu7xE

So, nothing new for me - just not to my liking - and in the end that's what it's about for each and everyone of us consumers... one person likes product X - another dislikes it...

NightAxe - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZJzZ4jkYd40

reply

Exact same thing? Pumuckl is a kobold who comes to live with a furniture maker. Zorn is a barbarian warrior trying to reconnect with his son. The only exact same thing about the two shows is the mix of animation and live action lol. Also, the Pumuckl show is thirty four years old. Something you may not know about American movie/TV producers; they love reboots. Something being done that long ago would certainly not stop it from being done again over here. Heck, look at Batman. Rebooted by Nolan after eight years then Batman was rebooted again by Snyder in half the time.

Making Zorn live action would make the main hook of the show pointless. The mix is what drew me in, regardless of Roger Rabbit and Cool World having been made before heh.

SO STFU!

BoJack Horseman works because it is all animated. Not sure about this though.

reply

I like Bojack Horseman, but Son of Zorn is funnier. I get you don't like it, but its a good decent show.

reply

Well, they still didn't find someone who is funny.

It is not a parody. A parody would make fun of the format, this show just uses it.

The Naked Gun movies are parodies of cop films because they make fun of the trope of cop films. This show does not make fun of the animated format.

reply

Luckily there are other channels and an OFF button for those who dislike the series. One wonders why people bother to complain about it. There are scores of television series one happily ignores. Not enough to do?

Bored now.

Its done to crank up the slapstick comedy and potential metafiction vibe.

reply

It works.

reply

I didn't see any reason for him to be animated either. It accomplished nothing.

In this day and age of CGI, there was no point in this being cartoon animated in a live setting.

reply

I kinda liked it animated; it made me nostalgic for Looney Tunes: Back In Action.

Sorry to break your idea / your analysis of my comments - but I am quite open minded when it comes to entertainment. I even like tv shows and movies that most people bash for extremely stupid and silly reasons.

But when something (in my humble opinion) sucks then I say it!

Anyway - you are right of course... it's so pointless, such an epic waste of time to even write a "negative" opinion.

The best thing about stuff I don't like is NOT. WATCHING. IT! ...which I happily do in the case of "Son of Zorn"

No problemo! Actually, I'm not a masochist, so I won't be watching something I "hate" - and I am not sure why you have such a strong reaction to my posts here, when ImdB is full of a trillion times worse posts full of stupid trolling and hatred.

Man, I'll never leave this mesage board, will I?

And again - I agree with you. I usually only go to the boards of movies and tv-shows that interest me. But take my "Hobbit Part 3" movie critique for example. I love "The Lord of the Rings" so much - in my opinion one of the best trilogies EVER. That was our generation's 'STAR WARS' - and then the same director came along and created this horrible 'Hobbit' trilogy that suddendly was so over the top CGI, action and simply TOO MUCH OF EVERYTHING... and especially the last movie... this "Dwarfs VS Elves VS Whatever WAR MOVIE" that I had to write a 'negative' review.

One quite famous spiritual Guru once said: "Love and hate are the same" - and he's right. All the people (I suppose even the trolls) LOVE to HATE stuff.

Or, like in the 'Hobbit' example: The thing I loved was turned into something I WANTED to love but couldn't...

Ah, oh my god... how very dramatic, right? In the end, it's all a joke. It's entertainment, ESCAPISM...

Have you even checked out my short-film, NightAxe?

So, you allow yourself 5 minutes a day for spare-time... and the rest of your day you spend being super-disciplined, working hard... and watch garbage like "Zorn"?

Quite a synchronicity we have here. Just came here from watching several episodes of season four of The Simpsons.
...and actually I even really like season one of The Simpsons. But when it comes to that show, I seriously can only watch the seasons considered the "golden age"

- the new simpsons (more or less after the movie years ago) are absolutely and utterly unwatchable for me!

...I'd rather wath "Son of Zorn" then... which I also can't - it's too much sitcom for my taste - and I also just am not a fan of mixing animation with live action (and I love animation!)

Yeah sure 5 minutes is all the time you have when you're not busy the whole day huh? Seems you have plenty of spare time to post on this POS shows message board Mr. "Im so busy". Jump off a cliff.

It's incredible how many posts he can churn out in five minutes per day!
