bad pet owners

Really, all this love for Dr. Jeff, but no comments at all regarding the idiot pet owners???

I’ll let it go that some of them wait a week or longer before bringing their badly injured pets to the clinic . . . it probably takes that long for them to find out that there actually is a less expensive option to get their pet treated. I’m guessing the mainstream vets aren’t out there promoting the low cost clinic.

But what about the cat owner whose “beloved” cat was previously treated for a urinary tract blockage . . . and still feeds the cat the same crap food that caused the blockage in the first place! Really, if you love the cat so much, why not spend another couple of dollars a week so you don’t put its life at risk every time you set its food bowl down???

Actually, it probably wouldn’t even cost her any more - smaller portions of a high quality food would probably cost this owner less than what she’s paying to OVERFEED her already obese cat!

Perhaps nobody had explained the connection to her before?

Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

Well, that’s on Dr. Jeff then - since he (or someone on his staff) did the prior surgery. Or am I mistaken about that?

I agree with much of what you say but in the owners defense I think you're a little too harsh. I doubt Dr. Jeff has appts. available 24/7. It might actually take a week to get into to see a Dr. at his clinic.
I know with my regular vet I can't always get in the second I want to.

As far as the Cat is concerned. Maybe the Cat refused to eat the better quality food. Cats can be picky at times. If they don't eat for 3 days they can get something called "fatty liver" which can bring on a whole new set of problems .

Pet owners aren't born knowing everything about pet ownership. It takes time to learn. Thinking back to my first pets I know I made mistakes because I simply didn't know any better. I've learned a lot over the years. As I knew better I did better.

I know exactly what you mean. I don't accept the excuse that they couldn't get an appointment. It looks like folks come in and don't have appointments.

On last night's show a young woman brings in her dog who had a broken leg. She is going on and on about how her dog (Nickie) was like her first baby. But when they come to call her back - she (and the vet tech) walk the poor animal instead of picking her up. She wasn't so large that she couldn't be picked up easily.

They had a case last night of a dog who fell out of the back of a pickup truck. Her feet and legs were really messed up. There was another case recently of another dog who fell out of a pickup. The dog last night was dragged as he was on a leash with a harness (apparently attached to the truck.) The owner said it good the leash wasn't hooked to a collar (dog would have choked to death). Something vague was said about how dangerous it was to have dogs in the back of a truck.

I thought it was a great time for Dr.Jeff or another person on staff to make a statement about this practice.

This is a pet (no pun intended) peeve of mine. Everytime I see a dog in the back of a truck - I want to scream at the driver - "What happens if you have to slam on your brakes or you get in a wreck???" I asked a guy one day who parked his pickup next to me with a dog in the bed of the truck. His excuse was that the dog liked it.

I think it should be a law that no dogs should ride in the back of a pickup.

You have to remember, this is also a fairly rural region of the country, and overall education levels aren't that great. Look at the people on the show....they don't exactly take great care of themselves, either. It's not like living in New York City where the basics are all within a short subway ride, educational levels are high, and overall intelligence and empathy towards animals are better.
