Austin

She had no right to help kill her mother. If the mother wanted to die, she should have done it herself. Watching Austin push her mother into the water was terrible to watch.

Easy to judge unless you've been there. There are no easy answers. ALS is a terrible disease. Eventually you suffocate because even your lungs won't work anymore.

reply

A good friend died of ALS, but she didn't kill herself, nor would she ask anyone to.

I understand what Mary was going through, but she destroyed Austin's life.

reply

I don't think she destroyed her life. Austin had the gift of spending time with her Mother, they laughed and cried together. She got to talk to her prior to her death. She got to ask questions that she alone knows the answers to. She heard her Mother tell her she loves her one last time. But most importantly she got to say goodbye.

What was the medication Austin gave her mother? Was it to ease the transition? Even so, I got the impression their plans were upset with Carolina's early arrival.

It's okay to sit and preach about what's right or wrong.

But the bottom line is that ALS is a frightening and scary disease that is pre torture every single day. She couldn't have just killed herself alone, she could barely even move.

Yeah she shouldn't have asked her daughter to do it, she ruined Austin's life but the movie clearly established that she was a selfish mother

reply

What ruined Austin's life was the failure of her writing career. She was on top of the world then quickly lost her luster along with her money so she had no choice but to move back home

reply

I'm confused about why the mother killed herself? Yes, she had ALS but how come she didn't want to take medicine or get any treatments?

reply

ALS is a disease that is progressive and there is no cure for it so it. All they can do is adapt to the symptoms like pain meds, and oxygen. The last to go was her hands she struggled to write the letters then she was completely unable to do anything
