A reviewer mentions parallels with Broadchurch, a series I have not seen.

But I thought the opening title sequence was amazingly reminiscent of the one in the second True Detective. And there were certain plot angles that were similar, such as political corruption.

Maybe the reviewer saw parallels between the two shows in terms of there being a detective with a troubled past and multiple suspects.
