FEMALE question

What on Earth do they do when it's that time of the month?? This one is 40 days, so it's not like you can use birth control to manipulate it happening before and after your trip out.

I saw a short video on YouTube with EJ and one of the women from Colombia (her name escapes me at the moment). They were being interviewed in a parking lot somewhere by TMZ and the guy asked her about that very thing and she said that the women use a "diva cup". She said it goes in once, doesn't have to be changed during the cycle, and doesn't have a string dangling from it.

**EDIT: Here's a link to that video I mentioned:

I've discussed this topic a couple of times over the years on the board for the regular N&A show. Using the diva cup is a terrible idea. It absolutely DOES need to be changed and washed often. The cup is small and would simply overflow if full, negating the purpose. The process of emptying it would require a lot of very clean water for washing hands and washing the cup. Otherwise it would cause an infection. I hope the producers quickly moved on to tampons for simplicity and health.
I've heard various women from reality shows say that they use birth control hormones to ensure that they only menstruate four times a year. I think it was the first series of UK Survivor where the cast admitted that most of the women intentionally took hormones so that they wouldn't have to bother with periods during filming.

The hormone thing would make a lot more sense. That's a pretty easy thing to accomplish with several of the birth control methods available now. I'm a woman but I'd never heard of a diva cup and her assertion that it goes in once and doesn't have to be changed just sounded wrong to me but since I didn't know what it was, I took her word for it. Another poster said that there's a tent the contestants can use for emergency medical supplies and hygiene needs, which makes sense. But even if that tent doesn't exist, there are camera crews out there with the contestants so I'm sure some accommodations could be made.

If you look at Honora's personal account of the situation (see the topic on these message boards), she refers to a tent that holds tampons, meds for the contestants, etc

So I was under the impression that they can still access this stuff, and in the case of daily meds that must be taken, go to this medical tent as they please.

Then again we are talking about Honora here, so take that with a grain of salt
