dagr317 Even if the animals are filmed later and it's edited to make it look like the lions are only a few feet away, the fact remains that there are still ticks, snakes, predators in their native habitat, and poisonous fruit to contend with. I know that nobody on this show is ever going to be attacked by a wild animal in any "traditional" sense of the word because there's a camera crew there 24/7 who can shoo away anything that gets too close. So the naked people have that sense of safety but even with that, it still didn't stop 2/3 of the cast from tapping out or being medically removed before the extraction. All in all, this was a really great season.
True that most of those lions and bigger animals were much farther or were just spliced in footage....although there were some where they were pretty close. I would say that a couple of hungry lions at 100 yards away, are dangerous as hell. I doubt that any of them can outrun one, even at that distance; and especially while being malnourished and weak. And they were way closer than 100 yards on the show.
Even with a full crew of skilled hunting guides and professional hunters, all armed with high caliber rifles and shotguns, they are known to fail and get attacked by these apex predators like in these videos (of which there are many):

They probably have ONE security guy with a bigass rifle on guard, rotating with 1-2 more on shifts....to protect the Naked People and the camera crew. Mostly, they probably just rely on the animals shying away from humans.
