I really like Aaron Paul but do you think he's a one trick pony?

I love Breaking Bad and The Path is very good
I watched come find me or whatever it's called the other night and it was average at best but he's pretty much the same guy in everything give or take some minor details. Maybe he is dealing with typecasting but I want to see more range and I hope he's not playing Jesse Pinkman forever.

that is just how some actors have to do it. they get a huge fan base just by fanboys and girls and they have no choice but to be exactly themselves in every role from there on out. it is a sound business decision. ppl will hire him forever probably.

I never got into Breaking Bad and I guess that means I don't excuse him as much as some people do. Always felt like he got famous because his voice is cool. He's not the best actor around and I don't think he's skating by on looks.....not calling him ugly by any means

So, I just write something here and it will appear on everything I post?

reply

I don't see Jesse Pinkman when I watch Aaron in this. No, I don't think he's a one trick pony.

Many actors are playing different roles with the same persona...Jack Nicholson...Matthew Mc Connehy...they are good in new roles, but their basic personality shows through.

Maybe breaking bad will be his peak with a great show having a great character that fits him perfectly, all the stars aligned for him perfectly.

Thats called success you are happy you had it once, a olympic athlete may not repeat his race but if he wins his always a olympian.

Im not very good at judging actos skills but he seems average hollywood to me, you could be right he does not have the widest range, but a specialist tool thats the best for just one tiny detail is still good to have.

I see a little Pinkman poking through now and then, but basically AP is learning to act and doing a fairly good job. I think the directors of movies and TVs use people for their stereotypes, so it's not totally fair to say AP cannot play different roles, he's got a kind of similar role, just a little difference which is the right amount of risk for a producer.

He's really not that good. He's pretty bad in The Path. He's never convincing and there's something self-conscious about anything he says or does.

I'm kind of torn on this. I've only seen him in one other thing (BREAKING BRAD) and he is very similar here -- just more calmed down -- but that's the way most actors and actresses are. They have a certain persona that comes naturally to them, and are at their best when that comes shining through. I mean, is Jodie Foster really radically different in very many of her roles? No, she is Jodie Foster.

If you want to see a performer who can literally transform themselves, watch Amy Ryan's Oscar nominated performances as a scuzzy welfare mom in GONE BABY GONE and then as a prim office manager in Season 5 of THE OFFICE, back to back.
