Good but a bit too autobiographical

I'll start by saying I love Maria and her stand up, I've been a fan of her style of routine for years now. The voices are really the selling point to me, and I'm sure many others. And this show definitely has its moments of greatness that have me cracking up, don't get me wrong.

But does anyone ever feel like it's too personal and autobiographical sometimes? As in, to the point that it alienates the audience and the humor stops. It gets a bit self indulgent and there's entire stretches that just aren't funny because it's more about Maria dealing through her issues than entertaining the audience.

While I'm happy that Netflix affords the show creators a bit more freedom (if a drastically reduced budget) sometimes someone steeping up and saying 'no, take that part out' or 'this isn't that funny, let's move it for now' would actually benefit this show specifically once in a while.

Maria has made a career out of impressions of her family and other people she meets in her private life. If you're a fan of her standup as you say, you know her material is intensely autobiographical. I would be curious where you thought the comedy was stopped cold by the intrusion of Bamford's personal life. There wouldn't be a show without it.

I can think of her brother in law. Do we have to know he wanted to be an artist?

No we didnt need to know that, but that was an important story to tell. She connected with him over art because he was depressed and she clearly finds solice and relief in her art.
