95% fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes

And 87% audience score
http://www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/lady-dynamite/

So why only 7.4 here?

Could it be that it is no longer cool to like new Netflix shows like it was before (when say Master of None premiered)?

Admittedly,Netflix green-lighted many crappy & generic sitcoms since then (Love,The Ranch,Fuller House,Grace and Frankie,Real Rob,etc) to hurt its brand. But Lady Dynamite is a comedy gem.The most original and fresh show since when I first saw season 1 of Seinfeld or Louie or Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Because Rotten Tomatoes doesn't take the individual reviews of the critics on a scale of 1 to 10. If it is a positive review, the show gets a positive review.

I'd say anything over a 6 would be considered positive. That 95% is number of positive-ish reviews ... not a score.

Rotten Tomatoes does this with all things.

Well it would be absurd to suggest that critics haven't gone absolutely *beep* for Lady Dynamite like for no Netflix comedy since Master of None. And the 95 score is the result of that. While at IMDB its 74% is basically the same as recent critical failures like The Ranch (53% on rotten tomatoes),Flaked (40%) & Fuller House (33%)

But it was the glowing critical reviews that made me want to give Lady Dynamite a shot. Here are some examples:

I found Lady Dyanmite much better than the other three you have mentioned. I couldn't get past a few episodes of a couple of them.

I think the take on LadyD is that it is something dramatically different even though it is a zany comedy. We are asked to give a chance to Maria Bamford in her attempt to find humor in her life and bout of mental illness. There is a lot to laugh at here but it also asks us to somberly think about what others experience and go through.

I was quite impressed with LadyD although I realize her style of comedy/humor won't translate to others. I think the deeper message/urgency of understanding is what makes this one stand out.

We aren't asked to laugh AT mental illness ... she is asking us to laugh with her getting over it and dealing with it.

That last review of yours from the LATimes nailed it. I applaud Bamford for overcoming and succeeding.

Metacritic aggregates the average critic score out of 100 (7 out of 10 = 70) and there it has an 85.

Go over to the new Ghostbusters movie board. That should tell you everything. I'm kinda shocked that the rating on IMDB is not under 6.

RT score for S01 is 8.25/10 to be precise. That tomato isn´t the "real" score but who knows that?
