Anyone else found this movie absolutely amazing horror genre experience?

Hey,

I was kinda blown away by this movie. I mean i watch tons of horror flicks, but can't remember last time I've had chills during one. I took me by surprise, i kinda expected OK flick, but saw the best horror movie since the first "Sinister". Anyone else?

An awful lot of people obviously didn't like it, but I thought it was spooky as hell. I watch a lot of scary movies, some are great, some I think are actually scary, but I rarely jump or get chills. This gave me both. I was very surprised.

Me too. It scared me like no other horror has done in years. It is not that it is that incredible or even amazingly made, or even the story... however, it bloody worked.

No Paranormal movies scares me unfortunately ...

I have a crippling FEAR of death and specifically ETERNAL NOTHINGNESS after we die...and simply put, any Kind of Paranormal activity would Make Me happy because that would be proof to me that theres something after death instead of ETERNAL NOTHINGNESS

When I watch these horror movies about Paranormal creatures and monsters, I cant fear them because I have absolute certainty they cant exist...again this is due to my unfortunate FEAR that once we die, There is NOTHINGNESS for Eternity...if you truly sit down and think about ETERNITY and Imagine just how long it is, It simply the MOST HORRIFYING thing ever, and Then added to it, that You'll never live, think or be again...the second you die, its just NOTHINGNESS, never know you lived, never know you died, never know you had a family, for all ETERNITY you are no more....to Me this is the very definition of HELL...nothing could be worse..

Therefor, this may sound weird, but I can not fear demons, creatures or ghosts, because To Me they are literally the answer to my biggest fear...again If I was Haunted by The Demon from HELL it would make me HAPPY...because it would mean, something is after death other than Eternal Nothingness...

I truly enjoy watching Horror movies, when I was a kid, I too used to get scared and fear the creatures and ghosts in the movies...Now though I just enjoy the movies, I cant for a second fear them because I have absolute certainty they cant exist...but I do enjoy paranormal genre...

Lights Out was one of my favorite horror movies of the last 5 years...while I wasnt scared, I really enjoyed the concept and execution...If I would have watched this 10 years ago...I have no doubt I would have been scared shitless and probably been afraid to turn the light off...

Interesting. I get you. In a world of fantasy, I fear ghosts because I feel I can fight off most things and most monsters. At least a slim chance, whereas ghosts are unbeatable. And being completely helpless is my fear.

Anyway, one can fear more than one thing? Perhaps the second worst thing to eternal nothingness, is eternal agonizing pain in the fires of hell.... it is not a one thing... no?

Besides, true nothingness also means nothing to relate to. And if so, you wouldn't be able to tell it was an eternity or even nothing. If you are destined to drift in true nothingness, you wouldn't be there yourself - as it would no longer be true nothing. Only if you were part of this nothingness, would it make sense? And you can only be part if you are not you. You would have to be nothing too. Perhaps it is not so bad after all ??? I mean compared to eternal flames of hell:-)

^^^

This is not an exaggeration in the slightest....

I would rather face an Eternity In hell than Eternal Nothingness.

The HORROR of the second I die, I just shut off, never even realizing I died, can never have the thought that I had a life or Family, The fact that I can never be again...Literally in 70 Billion years from right now and I'll still be NOTHINGNESS....and Then the Mind Blowing fact that that 70 Billion years, Isnt even .0000000000000000000001 % of ETERNITY

Obviously my greatest wish, If I had 1 wish in life it would be to have TRUE faith

I would like more than anything to believe it god and a religion and have certainty of an Afterlife

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, The concept of God,Jesus and Religion are Impossible for me(and believe me its not by choice or for a lack of trying)...

So I left with an unfortunate Crippling FEAR that I am certain of what happened after death and that is Absolute and Eternal NOTHINGNESS, The second we die, Is just like before we were born....The World/Universe existed either 14 Billion years(If you believe in the Big Bang) or around 6000(If you believe in God)....and the facts are we didnt even notice that time, It went by Literally faster than the blink of an eye, we didnt know we didnt exist, we couldnt have a thought....Just Pure Nothingness...IMO That is the FATE that is waiting for us all....but this time theres no "Break" from it.....once we die, unlike before, we wont get a 60 to 100 Years break from NOTHINGNESS...now once we die, we can never be again....

NOTHING is more horrifying than that to me...

and because Of that belief and opinion, there are ONLY 2 options for me...

I'm either WRONG....and Will then be sent to hell for eternity

Or I'm right and Will face The HORRORS of Eternal NOTHINGNESS...

I can only HOPE and PRAY that Its HELL...

at least then I'll have Eternity of still Existing....

reply

A third option, you won't face anything. You are turned off, like a broken lamp. Nothing there. Not even you. No worries.

Ever been knocked out? Sometimes, you dream wonderful dreams while under, other times you are just switched off.... nothing. And it is actually not what you seem to think. It is like moments taken out of your history. You are not there, while under.

Who knows? we will learn eventually. I am though confident, it isn't hell, heaven or a void. It is an off switch. You are gone. Not even nothing. Take some comfort in that :)

I honestly expected it to be better coming from James Wan. Both Conjuring movies were great and the concept of this one is too, I just didn't feel it was utilized as well as it could have been. Not a bad movie, just not as good as I anticipated.

reply

James Wan was only a producer. He didn't write or direct the film.

The director was hired because he made a short film based on the same concept that got some buzz on the festival circuit and went viral. Based on the response to the short film, they gave him the money to make a feature.

I completely agree. This was a really creepy film. Loved it!
