Deadline says the budget is 185mil

reply

Add marketing to that, probably a similar amount.

Break even could be $700 to $800 million.

reply

Oh me...it keeps getting worse.

Deadline now calling it a 35 million opening...for a 185 million budget + at least 100 million marketing costs.

SATURDAY AM UPDATE: Disney's Maleficent: Mistress of Evil is on its way to a #1 finish, albeit a bit lighter than expected. The film brought in an estimated $12.5 million on Friday and is looking at a three-day performance around $38+ million. It received an "A" CinemaScore from opening day audiences.

$36m dom + $117m for = $153m WW!

reply

It only needs about 520 million to break even, too!

This is what usually happens, when they make a sequel to a really bad movie that made a surprising amount of money.

Like the sequel to Tim Burton's terrible "Alice in Wonderland".

reply

That's why I think Avatar 2 is fucked.

reply

Sure. But they're betting on Avatar 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7.

reply

The first one only sold well because of the gimmick. It was something new and innovative. Wow, a retelling of a classic Disney movie but this time it's from the villain perspective? Must see!

But now it's not new anymore, why bother?
