Loved it until an hour in!

Don't get me wrong. This movie is miles better than the Ridiculous 6. There are some truly great, classic Sandler moments in it. However, about 55 minutes into the movie, the jokes became very bad. There were weird scenes of homophobia and jokes about dementia. Dementia is a pretty sh**ty thing to joke about. Overall a 6/10 movie for me. anyone agree?

Nothing should be off limits when it comes to comedy. Lighten up.

Depends on how it's done. Just saying "nothing's off limits" isn't some free pass that automatically ends the discussion.

Okay, but who gets to decide if it's done properly? You?

Yup that is EXACTLY what I said. Christ.

I don't agree to those terms. Moses.

That is because you are an idiot. The individual is the one that decides if they like something or not. Who the *beep* else would decide if something is funny?

I agree. Some of the best comedians out there are the ones that can get you to laugh at things you don't feel comfortable laughing at.

reply

I don't agree...

Comedy is supposed to be funny... the definition is "intended to make an audience laugh"....for a good genuine laugh, there can not be any conflicting thoughts in the mind... so if your 2 year old kid drowned in the pool 2 weeks ago...and now someone is telling a joke about a kid drowning...there is no way you would find anything about that joke funny...it would actually bring pain... which then is no longer comedy.. so NO I don't agree with you and your idea that NOTHING is off limits in comedy is WRONG.

reply

(For every joke this movie has, there's at least one person in the world who would find any one of them personally offensive. I've been shot before, and I must say that it wasn't very funny. When that guy from The Shield got shot in both knees for comedic effect, sure, it brought me back to my experience, and I didn't laugh at that one. But at the same time, I didn't think for a second that they shouldn't have done that bit, because I can disconnect my reality from the fantasy I'm watching on my TV.

If we refrained from making jokes about everything that might offend someone, or in my case, bring back a crappy memory, then comedy would literally be reduced to those G rated jokes that little kids submit in those Highlights magazines) LOL

reply

Absolutely, I totally agree. One topic for me would be 9/11. So many people were effective that day and so many people were senselessly murdered. I don't think any of them are funny. I lost two people I knew that day in the North Tower. I also remember a joke about Christopher Reeves after his accident that I thought was tasteless. You decide:

What the opposite of Christopher Reeves? Christopher Walken

It's a little funnier now because he died but at the time I first heard it, it was only a few months after his accident. Just didn't think it was appropriate at the time.

Like art, comedy is subjective.

Couldn't agree more. There shouldn't be any taboos in comedy.

*beep* Comedians have the right to say whatever they want, but individuals listening to those jokes have a right to stop listening if they find it distasteful. I don't see the point in telling someone to "lighten up" when they express their opinion about something. Just as the comedian has the right to say whatever the *beep* he wants to say, so too does the one listening have the right to express their opinion about it.

I totally agree with you!

OP would completely lose it if he heard an Aristocrat's joke.

It was nice to watch a movie that didn't care about PC. This sensitive crybaby culture needs to toughen up. I will agree the second half wasn't as good and probably a little all over the place. 7/10 This is Sandler's best movie in over 10 years for me

God yes, the Movie was so good, probably the best Sandler movie of the last 10 yrs.

reply

I was shocked that it was actually funny despite some incredibly stupid parts. Netflix really is taking over. Their original programming has been quite good.

The two parts of the movie that I can watch over and over are early on and close together.

When Max shoots the Flare Gun at the girls insulting Charlie's dong 😀 I can laugh my a$$ off every time I watch it.

However the best part is when Max pulls a club out of nowhere and beats the fish to death while screaming f#ck you! f#ck you! Charlie's facial expression while being splattered with blood is awesome.

First 40'ish and last 20'ish minutes were enjoyable.

The movie really hit a lull in the middle, I think they could have edited quite a bit out and it would have been a better experience.

That being said... compared to some of the turds Sandler has recently put out, this wasn't terrible at all.

Which homophobia?

reply

Don't you understand, jokes about homosexuality are homophobia, duh

reply

LOL 

I think "homophobia" might be the most misused word in the English language.

Last night I made a joke about my g/f's dog. Does that mean I'm afraid of dogs now? No. Just means I made a joke about it once.

reply

First half of this movie was pretty good. Twist after twist plus all the vulgar humor really drove this movie into the ground.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

I agree about it being better than THE RIDICULOUS 6... but it's still one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

It's not considered wrong to joke about dementia because, unlike homosexuality, mocking it isn't discrimination.

reply

I love Dementia jokes! They're...wait, what are we talking about again?
