Stolen storyline?

I have just watched this movie and although watchable the storyline is an almost exact copy of the film Comfort and Joy. Other than the cause of her life change it's the same story right down to her going to work and nobody knowing her and the two kids thinking she had gone nuts. Is it a remake of the same story or just a rip off?

reply

They're both copies of The Family Man, with Nicolas Cage.

I think I have seen The Family Man although a while ago, If I am thinking about the right movie is it the one where his car breaks down and the tow truck driver turns out to be an angel? if so you may well be right.

reply

No, that's Mr. Destiny, with Jim Belushi. The Family Man is where Nicholas Cage is single and a big-time Manhattan financial guy, who meets an angel in the form of Don Cheadle, then wakes up the next morning married to Tea Leoni in the suburbs where they have two kids.

Basically almost the exact same plot as 'Family for Christmas', with some of the scenes almost word-for-word.

Spoilers:

Same ending too, where the fantasy life with the spouse and children are gone, and the two start over, leaving it up in the air whether those children ever existed, or ever will exist.

You are right it wasn't the film I was thinking of but neither was it the Belushi one. The one I am thinking of the guy was also a high roller with a $200.000 Mercedes sports who finds out in his alternative life he is a preacher. This is gonna bug me now.

Since I posted this reply I've found it. The film was "What if" and starred Kevin Sorbo
