Killing followers? I know mean....

I've heard that once you complete the main story and you grind companion gears enough you can make them hate you and if they hate you you can kill them
even saw vids on youtube that basically confirm its possible after i made a completed the main story i made a companion hate me(wont say who), but sonehow no matter what i do they just won't die why is this?
