No big name voices this time huh

Couldnt afford a Liam Neeson or a Matthew Perry, etc?

reply

Well, Liam Neeson worked out ok for FO3. So they did another stunt casting for NV and went out and got Matt Perry.

How well did Chandler do in that role anyway? We all remember how that turned out, right?

Yeah, better to hire seasoned voice actors than go waste money stunt casting dead-voiced, monotone, energy and interest killing "stars."

It was nice to hear Claudia Christian, a voice I recognized immediately when first encountering the railroad. And ever since watching his "There Will Be Brawl" it's always cool to hear Matt Mercer in a game, this time as MacCready.

They really didn't need to. Back then they were a well thought of game attempting to make a AAA franchise. And they succeeded.

The voice actors did great, the game is great.

Did you feel it detracted from the game not having a celebrity name in there?

And now you're gonna die, wearing that stupid little hat. How does it feel?

reply

No, I didnt think it detracted from the game but it was nice to hear recognizable voices at times, it was a good surprise.

Malcolm McDowell
Danny Trejo
Liam Neeson
Wayne Newton
William Sadler
Kris Kristofferson

They all popped out at you. I just thought it was a curious change.

I'm obviously not the type of person that responds well to celebrity voices. I've watched many a pixar film without recognising the actors and, on your list there is only 2 that I realised were in Fallout.

But yeah, I don't think it's that curious really. The only one I really missed was Ron Perlman. He's listed in the credits, and I think I know who he is in the game but I honestly never noticed him.

As long as the voice acting is good, I don't care if there's stunt casting or not. Yes, Matt Perry was a super bad example because of how awful the voice acting was.

However, when they do a decent job... its fine. Expensive... and if its expensive to the point of they could have made the game better instead of expensive stunt casting, its bad. But as long as they are ok at voice acting it's fine.

So obviously it's better not to try stunt casting. You might be wasting time and money better spent elsewhere and only get crap in return (like NV's Benny.) And even if it's good the only positive is "oh hey, that sounded like ______?" followed by a trip to IMDB to find out for sure. And I'm not sure that's worth the money.

Although it was cool hearing Wayne Newton in a video game setting up crooner hits.
