How historically accurate are the weapons and clothing of this movie?

How accurate historically of the weapons and appearances of the fighting men of the medieval Norway civil wars in this movie?

reply

They are pretty accurate. A great deal of writings from the time show illustrations of fighting men wearing the garb these men were wearing.

I liked how they didn't speak english. That creates a much better feel of historical accuracy.

reply

Yeah I completely agree. And the parts were very well cast. I always love historical movies that get not only the garb correctly but the story as well! ?

reply

Movies are usually legendary for making extremely faciful versions of history.

I loved the look of the clothing and weapons -- no Technicolor-bright dresses on the peasant women, no top-of-the-line fancy bows and arrows. Also loved that there was no (or very little) CGI. Excellent movie.

Color me surprised that in 1206 they already knew all about infection and that you have to disinfect a wound with alcohol when Pasteur didn't discover it until 1860 at the earliest.
