Why, Bruno, why?

Why are you casting the execrable Valeria Bruni Tedeschi, the very worst actress in both the Italian and French speaking world, in your movie? The woman who should definitely put to rest all claims that the female falsetto doesn't exist (guess Richard Miller never got to hear her voice).

Seriously, even if the film is good, I already know this will detract a lot from my overall enjoyment of it.

Hee, hee. I can't stand her either. First saw her in 5x2; hated the film and hated her and the male lead.

What makes me a little sad is that Dumont is working with established actors and big names at that in this planned film. I hope he doesn't continue in this vein.

Good evening, Poppy.

Glad that we see eye to eye. 5x2 was indeed a horrific film, even if I found Stéphane Freiss to be a decent actor in other things. I only felt sorry for Michael Lonsdale and Françoise Fabian. What were they doing in that pile of...?

I wouldn't really have a problem the cast (as famous as some of them are) if it weren't for her. Luchini is always a welcome sight. I thought Binoche gave one of her best performance under Dumont's direction in 'Camille Claudel 1915'. And Jean-Luc Vincent was Bruno's own special gift to cinema. He was a stage actor with a single cinematic credit before the film. I thought he totally stole the show as Claudel. Great asset to his cinema. I think this star casting has generally to do with the fact that Dumont's work has changed, stylistically speaking.

Hello MrEb, it's been a while.

I love Fabrice Luchini and I suspect that Dumont's new film will be a comedy, as that is what he suggested after P'tit Quinquin. I don't have a problem with it or the cast as such but I hope he'll resume his unconventional casting. He no doubt misses David Dewaele. I agree about Binoche in Camille Claudel 1915. Such a haunting film. And that actor, Jean-Luc Vincent was very good as Paul Claudel, who was a rather scary man.

Ah, thanks for the info. The cast is kinda heterogeneous (although we've already seen the Binoche-Vincent pairing do marvels), so I wonder if the tone will also be intermittent. Luchini certainly has a flair comedy, wonder about the others (well, in Bruni Tedeschi's case, I already know the answer...)

What does Valeria Bruni Tedeschi have a flair for? 

Anyway, I hope it's a good film notwithstanding her involvement.

Well check out the trailer. This is definitely as Binoche described... a burlesque comedy and she's so radiant it will be worth seeing for that alone...

Thanks for the link, it looks great. Given the farcical/grotesque tone of the film, maybe Bruni Tedeschi's naturally comical voice will fit it perfectly. If Dumont really manages to put her to good use, it will possibly prove his genius more than anything else. 

That sounds really good. Thanks for the link jason. I've suffered some bad films for actors like Binoche so I'm not sure I'd endure it for her alone anymore! But it seems I won't have to and that it will tickle me as did P'tit Quinquin.

Binoche elevates any film she appears in. Sadly sometimes it is not enough. She made a few duds a few years ago La Vie d'Une Autre, The Son of No One and most especially La Vie d'Une Autre, but for me Camille Claudel 1915, A Thousand Times Good Night, Endless Night and to an extent The Wait made up for that. For me The Wait could have been amazing but it just wasn't quite there.
