Why does brazillian writers keep on failing at Drama?

HBO Seal of quality have been betrayed by this show. With a combination of bad framing, poor lightings, bad casting, embarrassing dialogues this TV Show will portrait a very common case of ~ Mexican Soap Opera drama~
As a Brazilian I feel embarrassed by this show. Right now if a Brazilian dramatic show doesn’t have Selton Mello acting or directing you can be sure it will not have an acceptable level of quality. I’m sorry I wasted my time watching it.

Well, I suppose we're all entitled to an opinion but I reckon yours was quite rash and narrow minded.
You missed the point of the entire series, aesthetic and plot-wise actually. Context: Brazil during dictatorship 1973. No access to resourses to quality filmmaking and censorship attacking any form or "left-wing" thinking. Therefore, plots had to be adapted to non-subversive and government acceptable themes. The show is filmed to look like 'C' quality and cheesy from time to time but that is the geniality of it. And I completely disagree regarding actors' performance and direction. Selton Mello is great and there are many others, great actors and directors. Certainly they do feature in this show, e.g. Marcos Winter. Suggestion: Indeed, stop wasting your time with it and watch simpler straightforward stuff.

I would like to point out a few details.

Theres a scene where the main character is sitting in a kitchen with poor lighting, but hes wearing glasses that end up reflecting in an distubing way to the viewer, it doesnt seem intentional.

plus the language used its an mix between a formal unsused portuguese with an extremely offensive thrash talk that isnt used aswell on a common daily basis.

the plot reminds me of every Soap Opera I watched, its the same. im offended that it got a score of 8.2 the max acceptable it would be something like 6.9

since im so narrow minded could you educate me on the details that make this HBO show so great in your opinion? I really cant believe you used the word "geniality".
