Figured maybe with the passing of time I would find more to like but the opposite happened. Current crop of singing stars cannot sing "Broadway", decent dancing and of the 3 numbers I actually liked in the original only Brand New Day was okay. Bad News was awful and I hardly recognized Home. A major disappointment.
My mistake about Home. The earlier number was not Home which is why I did not recognize it. The Home number was quite adequate. Lion was well done but it is a juicy part and I like Grier in anything. Not familiar with Scarecrow or Tin Man but adequate is not enough for such a heavily hyped show. I find it sad that people think that Black Americans are not familiar with the Wizard of Oz. Guess they must all live under rocks and never watch TV.
I was very disappointed in Latifah but it was a stupid role anyway.

I agree.
None of the "stars" are Broadway actors/singers and they look like a high school production.

Whether they're "Broadway" or not, at least they're actually stars, unlike Allison Williams.

Uzo Aduba is a Broadway actress with a powerful, beautiful singing voice. Her scene is about to come on.

David Allen Grier has a number of Broadway credits, including musicals ("Dreamgirls," "A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum"), and of course Stephanie Mills (who KILLED IT as Aunt Em) was the original Dorothy on Broadway 40 years ago.

I didn't know what to think coming in, but I enjoy all things oz, so I was going to watch no matter what once. We'll watch it again at this point. When/if it hits a national tour, we will go.

Loved the costuming and sets. Principal characters dancing was subpar.
