Boycott this racist production
Barely a white face in it, clearly those behind the production are racist.

A legend resurrected

I was just about to say that.
shareAre you serious?
I can't even begin to count all the Broadway/TV shows and films since the invention of entertainment that are all white cast only. More recently in the past 10 years, there's been a pattern of having one token minority. Geez.
Have you even seen theater schools across the country? They're all white!!
Not to mention actors of any other race besides white rarely having the opportunity to get any leading roles.
has blocked a black producer or whole black cast from coming up with an idea like a Sixth Sense or a Star Wars or a Meet the Parents or a Twilight or Ted or a Jurrasic Park or a Hunger games, etc, etc. If they did people would flock to that good movie making. But keep making Soul Plane or Who's you Caddy or some sterotypical black movie and then blaming whites for not putting all blacks into the movie ideas. Man, Millennials are such cry babies.
Write what you want. I'm not coming back to read it. Come up with your own GOOD ideas and use a whole black cast. I along with others won't care, but enjoy it. Until that happens...bye.
Do they rap instead of sing?
shareOh, go away.
shareThis story is based on a book by William Brown, which was an urbanized retelling of the original Wizard of Oz story. The play originally came out in 1974, with a movie starring Michael Jackson and Diana Ross in 1978.
shareWilliam Brown wrote the book for the musical, which means he wrote the script. There is no novelization of this musical, nor was it based on a book (other than L. Frank Baum's original).
shareWell he/ she has a point ..
shareExactly what i was thinking, I'm fine if they recast a character that was written as white to black or some other race but when you put up a sign for auditions that says BLACKS ONLY thats just plain racist
shareThis. It's fine in musicals to do color blind casting but to make a production "blacks only" is as racist as if we said "whites only"
We can't change that the original was white and during a pre Civil Rights world. But in this day and age this is never ok, regardless of what race you are talking about. We've come too far to find these things acceptable.
The "original" of the Wiz, was an all black cast based on a book by William Brown. It is cast the exact same way it was 40 years ago.
shareDO NOT WASTE TIME ARGUING WITH DREAMCATCHER_WOLF
She is always condescending and as she points out will just keep posting and posting and posting
She thinks she is the Queen B around here.
She just comes on here to start fights and drama
Go check out the Dakota Fanning board and everything she has said if you do not believe me.
The fact that you have a problem with the race of the characters means you're racist.
share@Patman32
Seriously? I swear, some white folks spout this same old tired-a** "that's racist" bull**** every time they see an all-black anything. Virtually 99% of movies and TV are about white people, but ONE traditional classic gets remade with an all-black cast, and y'all just have to throw a fcking fit about it. If this was an all-Asian or all Native American, or all-Hispanic production, you wouldn't say jack about it. But an all black anything is somehow "racist"? That's some bull****.
If you had bothered to do your research, this new version of The Wiz actually started out as a popular musical play (written by black playwrights)in the mid-'70s, then was made into a major movie in 1978 starring Diana Ross. It wasn't considered then, and only white poeple who obviously know nothing (like you) about the history of the show actually think that bull****. White people didn't have to be in it because they already dominate practically every movie and TV show ever made (and still are.) But you conveniently ignore that to whine and complain Sometimes black people just want to see something that is about US for a change. There ain't a damn thing wrong with that. If you got a problem with it, that's your problem.
