Cancelled?

It wasn't on this week

Unlike Cupcake Wars, which seemed to go on & on-Cake Wars only had 6 episodes(I think it was 6). They now have Rachael Ray's cooking competition with the kids. Which it's funny it's only her now & not Guy.

There were 8 episodes just like there was for the first season of Cupcake Wars. If the show does get picked up for season 2 maybe they will add episodes like they did for CCW. Fingers crossed it comes back next season.

I wonder how Cake Wars did especially being Monday nights.

I've been watching a bunch of Cake Wars Christmas episodes. Don't know if they're repeats as this is the first time I've watched. I like it.

The new season started 2 weeks ago, so probably the new ones you're watching. They're different than what they used to have where it was all cake. Now it's like Halloween Wars where they incorporate the carving & sugar work.

reply

I love the carving & sugar work.

So before it was strictly cake? Did they have height requirements and were they able to use stabilizers?

reply

For the first part no height requirements. But if it were too small, that might not work in their favor(& someone was eliminated). And taste was always involved. The 2nd part there was a height requirement, but that never was an issue. Sometimes someone would try & make their cake too high & big, & of course that would end up being a problem. I don't know if you ever saw Cupcake Wars(it was at the height of cupcake popularity)? But it was exactly like that but with cake. Food Network use to have the cake challenges, that made Buddy & Duff known to the rest of the country. It's basically TLC's version of that with a few minor changes.

I tried to watch Cupcake Wars but didn't like the format. The first "bake" usually involves adding some nasty ingredient to go in the process. I don't like that. I don't want to make a cupcake with anchovies or whatever.

What do you mean when you say the height requirement was never an issue"

reply

Yea I know(they got that from Chopped). Cake Wars didn't use that part. It was flavor/taste/deco...lead to first elimination. But then the 2nd had the decoration being bigger(like cupcake wars they always had to have some kind of platform built), but with the Cake Wars they just used mainly cake.

reply

The Cake Wars you speak of sounds like fun. I've never understood how someone could bake a 5 ft cake with no support. It doesn't seem that that would be feasible.

I enjoy the sugar artists they have now but I LOVE the carvers. My granddad used to carve all kinds of things from various types of tree branches/logs. He even made his own pipes. If I remember correctly he couldn't use them right away but had to age them for a while.

The show has not been cancelled, at least not yet. It has yet to be determined if it will be renewed or not. But, the entire season did air.
