Sound of Music episode
It's my favorite so far probably because I know the most about it compared to the other themes. I wish Julie Andrews was there :)
shareI find it offensive that people only know the movie and don't have any knowledge of the original Broadway musical with Mary Martin and Theodore Bikel. Martin actually moved in with Maria von Trapp to study her character, and after the movie came out, von Trapp said Mary Martin nailed her, and Julie Andrews got it all wrong.
Mary Martin was an amazing talent, and it's a shame most people aren't aware of her legacy.

I think it was for the 50th anniversary of the movie not the original Broadway play. That is interesting though I didn't know that she lived with the real person.

But, seriously I liked her as Peter Pan as well. And RIP Theodore Bikel having recently passed away. My favorite Fiddler.
shareWell aware it was the anniversary of the movie. It just breaks my heart that the movie is the only incarnation of The Sound of Music so many people are aware of. I just wish everyone was more aware of the original stage musical—and the fact that "The Lonely Goatherd" is what Maria sang to the children when they were scared by the storm.
"My Favorite Things" fits in elsewhere.

I am very aware of the stage play but I have always preferred the movie. The movie had a flow that worked much better than the stage show. Although the Baroness and Max had a great song that is sadly missing in the movie. Other than that the movie works much better. There is a reason my theater friends and I all called it The Sound of Mucus.
