So much of this show is scripted. I know they're all real cake artists and trying to win, but you can't tell me they don't tell them to make an extra sugar thing that they will (at some point) drop and then pretend to cry. It happens in EVERY EPISODE! They can't all be that incompetent.

And the host doesn't say anything that isn't on a cue card. The comedy they have him doing seems like it was aimed at 4 year olds.

Also, I hate the first challenge on every episode. They don't give them enough time to do anything good so all of their cakes look like garbage. I'd rather they have one challenge per episode and give them all tons of time so we can see what they can really do.

I'm really disappointed in this show. I'm trying to give it a chance but boy it sure has been hard. Cupcake Wars the turn out was way above what these people are doing.
Halloween Wars was bad and the Christmas Holiday Wars wasn't much better. The output on most did not look professional.

I do this for a living. Like the OP said it should be one challenge for the total amount of time. There's no way some of that could be done in that short period & have something that tastes good. Have you ever seen the Challenge they used to have on FN years ago? It's how Buddy & Duff became known to everyone. With that it was 6-8 hours to create 1 cake. And the cake baking was already done. Not to mention any fondant work needs time to dry.
I agree at least Cupcake Wars the focus was far more on the taste. Whereas, in Cake Wars it's-quick do the cake, but focus mainly on the deco.

On Food Network, didn't they just use white sheet cakes on that Challenge show?

That's how it should be. Who cares how the cake tastes? I can't taste it. All I can do is see it. They're all professionals so I assume they know how to make a cake that tastes good.

They used whatever kind they wanted. But it was already done. Sometimes they would unwrap them & they would be damaged. But it was also a heavier textured cake that is typically used for carving.

That's what they should be doing here.

You can't bake a cake and decorate it while it's still hot.

Thank you! I always think it's crazy to have people rushing to do something with food in a very short period of time and then it also has to be a job well done & taste exceptionally good. Not just ok.

Especially if these cakes are supposed to be for some special event. I wouldn't want to have a cake that was rushed, or only won because it looked the least crappiest out of the 3.

I have to agree with the poster above. I'm looking at the episode in which the cakes are honoring 'Wonder Woman'. Cake Wars is supposed to showcase the best competing against each other but most of the cake work looks horrible so far. What's the point of doing the show it you can't meet a high standard? I've never seen so much shoddy work by contestants. Past episodes never had bakers on that struggled as much as this group. Their ideas seemed to be to ambitious to bring to completion. But there was one standout in looks and she did win. But the judges didn't care for the theme she came up with or the taste of her cake! Go figure??

I don't like this part either. They almost always look like crap so why bother.
