I wish the TV series was a sequel to the film

As a fan of the books, I felt the film did a good job overall and produced a good story that was faithful to the first novel. The only problem was the film wasn't successful enough for a sequel so we were left with too many unanswered questions - when will the war end? What is the extent of the invasion and the enemy plans? What will happen to Corrie? What about Homer/Fi and Ellie/Lee? I know that's how the first book ended but the film felt like it just stopped and they forgot to add on the ending. The film had no proper ending because blowing up a bridge, although impressive, is not a satisfying ending as no major issues were resolved.

Then came the TV series which started again at the beginning and also covered the first book which also ended with blowing up the bridge. It also seems like they will have the same problems as the film if they don't have a 2nd season. I didn't like the series as much as the film because it strayed too much from the novels. Didn't like the extra plot lines that were added (eg. The parents at the showgrounds, the soldier that shot Corrie etc) but I understand why they added them - if they stuck to the novel it would just look like a low-budget rehash of the film.

I feel they should have done a TV series sequel to the film instead that covers books 2 and 3. I know the actors are either too old or doing other things but I don't care if they used the TV cast (just put a blonde wig on Fi and a Caucasian girl for Corrie not that she's in too many scenes anyway). So the 6 episodes go something like this:
1. Living in Hell after the bridge explosion, visit Corrie at the hospital, convoy attack and Ellie euthanising a soldier
2. Meeting Major Harvey, failed attack by Harvey's Heroes, Lee stabs the soldier
3. Chris' accident, the attack on Turner Street
4. Rescuing Kevin, heading off to Cobblers Bay, recovering from fevers
5. The attack on Cobblers Bay harbour, Ellie shoots the soldiers
6. Thrown in prison, Robyn's sacrifice, the air attack and the escape to New Zealand

I feel a sequel to the film solves a few problems:
- Gives some closure to the unfinished events of the film
- Creates a story that is different from the film but still faithful to the novels
- In the event that a second season is not produced, book 3's ending is better than book 1's ending. The exciting bomb raid of Stratten, the escape from prison, defeating Major Harvey the villain, and escaping the war to New Zealand is a more satisfying ending. It's not perfect as the war is still going but the characters are living safely away from the war and the viewer has more information on the war itself.
- 2nd season then can cover books 4 and 5, the 3rd season covers books 6 and 7, and future seasons can cover the Ellie chronicles.

You have got many good points here and I agree with everything.

If I remember correctly, it's 4th book that is a complete waste (compare to all the others), so comining it with book 5 would be a smart idea.
