Thoughts From Episode 2

1) I think it would make for a really interesting filming technique to use the Skins episode format, where each episode is told from one of the main characters perspective. I get that its supposed to be told from Ellie's perspective, but it already seems like they have gone with a number of changes to the books that this would seem too far out of the ordinary. Plus it hasn't really been told from Ellie's perspective at all anyway.

It would have been great to see this episode from Robyn's perspective for example.

2) Loved the storyline of the parents, it was an interesting variation from the movie and breaks up the episode nicely.

3) The use of music completely removed the intensity of the Lee Rescue, it should be a scored music piece or not at all, not something they have pulled from a *beep* triple J band. Overall, too much music in the movie, maybe just 1 song at the end or at a point of a major change in the theme.

4) It was interesting to see them change up the roles, Kevin being part of the rescue and how they actually carried out the rescue. Still yet to see this pay off in some way.

5) The Homer casting is a bit of a mis-fire, especially when he is supposed to become somewhat of a leader and then he's standing next to this distant Hemsworth relative they cast for Kevin.

6) Missing the motorbikes from the movie, the push-bikes don't exactly scream 'WE ARE IN A WAR!'.

7) they are doing way too much during the day haha

8) Since when was Wirrawee by the sea?

9) The Casting for Ellie is growing on me, Corrie, Lee and Robyn are Much better. Still not buying Homer, Fi, and Kevin

10) WHY IS CHRIS SUDDENLY FI'S BROTHER????

11) Was homer taking off his white shirt supposed to represent him maturing and becoming a leader type figure? Should have got him to swap his stupid hat instead haha.

12) (this is more of a realistic observation) If I was really in their situation, how have they not picked up a weapon or several, they've had that many chances and all they have is a rifle for shooting rabbits.

13) The cow scene was brutal, so sad. Hopefully there is a big dramatic emotional change in the characters coming up following this moment.

14)(another realistic observation) I think I would be super pissed if this happened in my town, I wouldn't be scared if I got caught up with all the parents, just 'This is so inconvenient, why are we caught up in this *beep* yesterday I was being a normal guy, now this...Go invade Canberra already'... If I was the kids I'd be loving it, running around being a guerilla fighter.

15) So Lee now has a bullet lodged in his thigh for the rest of the show? I never got taught how to tend bullet wounds in my senior first-aid class.

16) The entire scene at Fi's house was awkward... Homer scampering under windows, then Fi almost casually walks past them. Obviously no one is there.

Overall, I am actually enjoying the series, I love that the pacing is nice and slow, getting into the emotion and relationships that the movie missed (obviously for time constraints). Obviously its budget doesn't stack up to the movie and we will forever be comparing the too, just like we did with the movie and books at one point. It's a different perspective, a different medium, which affects the portrayal of the show, such as the audience watching, which would explain the lighter style of shooting for young viewers (daytime events, haven't seen much graphic blood etc)

I think there are moments that were a little cringe-worthy or didn't quite make sense. But really, its a great change from all the reno and cooking shows that every channel wants to force down our throats everyday.

When the parents were deleting the photos of their children to protect them, I could really feel their heartbreak, feeling like they were losing their children... what a great scene.
