I tried to watch it.

The movie was on my PBS station last night, good picture, good sound, great actors. I generally like biographical movies, I am a Gambon fan and I wanted to like this one. I was only able to give it 45 minutes. I admit it might have gotten better if I had held out but I couldn't. Seeing Churchill go into and out of consciousness, in his bed, slurring when he did talk just became excruciating.

Maybe the filmmakers did the best they could with the material. I see several very positive reviews but the reviewers don't really say why they enjoyed it. For anyone reading this and like this movie a lot, I'd be grateful if you would explain why. I would like to understand.

Well, for one thing its one of the few films about Churchill showing him as a human being rather than the icon we all know and many of us admire.

Could you imagine having him with that all consuming ego as your spouse or parent? Idols are best when they're made of clay.

I watched the last hour of the show and loved it. It as called Churchill's Secret for a reason, and I think there was more to the title than his strokes. The marriage of the Churchills was revealing. And of course Michael Gambon was amazing as usual as was Lindsay Duncan.

I agree with you about the title. All families are quite complicated and they usually have all sorts of secrets.
