where are the parents?

I've never seen any of the parents of Kenzie or Babe. where are they? I can only remember a parent just being mentioned once. do their parents exist? and where do they live? they've never, no once showed them at home.

reply

I believe it is mentioned that Kenzie's mom is and jail in fact in the pilot she is living with her grandfather.

reply

well then it would've been nice if they had shown her living with her grandfather at least a little bit. and what about Babe?

reply

Maybe they got abducted by aliens.

reply

Their parents are at home.

Apparently the parents don't do much supervising. In the first episode Babe and Kenzie made a million dollars, or a million dollars each, from selling their game online, and Babe apparently spent it all on a new office which they didn't even need since they managed to make a million or two without one.

So the two grade school girls miraculously made a million or two, enough to last them the rest of their lives, and - though there was no guarantee they could ever make another penny in the game business - their parents let them waste it all.

reply

You realize it's a kids' comedy show, right?

reply

of course.

But if somebody says that a show has a particular aspect, responding with an supporting example of that aspect in the show is equally appropiate whether the show is a drama or a comedy or whatever.

for example, if somebody says that a character often but not always wears red and white, responding with examples of episodes where that character does wear red and white is reasonable, whatever the genre of the show. It would not make any difference if the series genre was reality, science fiction, talk show, police drama, western, or any other genre.

reply

You are right. They must be at home or travelling or something. They may show them in a future episode. They may not. Remember other nick shows don't show all parents like Henry Danger (Only Henry Hart's parents are shown. Charlotte's room was shown once, but no parents).
If the parents don't really contribute story lines to the show to make it worth showing them onscreen, then there is nothing wrong with mentioning them like "My mom has a hairdo appointment" or "Dad will be staying late at the office" or even "Kensie's parents are going out to dinner with Babe's grandpa to get away from us for a night".
It's okay to not see them just as long as it is mentioned they are around and doing things so they exist.

reply

In "Bet Your Bunny" Babe's surname is Pirano when kenzie says Babe and Todd will fight in the finals.

Of course that merely proves that Babe has a parent with a surname, which is pretty obvious anyway.

reply

It's pretty common in Dan Schneider shows for parents to not make an appearance or only make an occasional appearance. It's kind of like Charlie Brown in that way. It focuses on the kids only.

reply

ok, but that is totally unrealistic. in real life kids have parents who take care of them and buy them things to live on. how in the world do these kids just live and take care of themselves? and the thing that is weird about this show is how they never answer this question because the kids are always shown at their work or school but never at home.

reply

The kids don't just live and take care of themselves.

The unseen adults they live with take care of them offscreen.

maybe the last time anything interesting happened at the kids' homes was when Kenzie's experiment went wrong and damaged the kitchen and injured her grandfather. Maybe her grandfather forbids science experiments at home and thus nothing interesting or funny happens at any of the kids' homes anymore.

I may point out that the actual child actors on the show probably spend most of their weekdays at school and/or at work.

And for all I know, they might tell you that the only interesting events in their lives happen at school and at work and their home lives are dull and boring.
