Statement on Korean feelings toward Japan?

The main bad guy in the movie hated Korea and wanted to go to Japan. All of the bad things done were in the name of Japan. Even one of the more creative deaths in the movie involved an image of cherry blossoms.

So, I know Korea was occupied by Japan before WWII. Are there still bad feelings there?
